Not sure what do you mean by production Polestars. Polestar never built any vehicles. As a race performance company, they took run of the mill Volvo's, sport tuned them and gave Polestar trimlines. Similar to Brabus/Mercedez, Alpina/BMW and JCW/Mini. Curious to know what vehicles you are referring to as Production Polestars?

It was only after Geely bought Volvo and subsequently Polestar, Geely decided to make Polestar a standalone brand to manufacture EVs. As for the 2 production models, Polestar 1 was not meant to be a mass market vehicle, but a limited production run meant to introduce to the world that Polestar is now a standalone car manufacturer and probably to secure some seed money. At quarter million dollars the Polestar 1 was never meant to be a mass market vehicle.

Polestar 2 was their true entry into mass market EV production. Given, the Polestar 2 design was borrowed from Volvo, which was meant to be Volvo's refreshed S40, which Volvo dropped to make the S60 the entry level model.

Again, not sure what you are referring to when you say Rivian is surpassing the speed of Polestar. Polestar manufactured about 10K vehicles in 2020 and about 29K in 2021, but Rivian managed 5K since 2021. Not sure how the math is working out here.

Yeah, I agree Polestar cut their production target from 65K to 50K, but this was more to do with the ongoing lock downs in China than supply chain issues, so there is a chance these numbers could go up as China starts easing those lock downs. Still, that's 50K vehicles in 2022, compared to 25K by Rivian.
Also, one thing I am not sure of is if Polestar is counting the deliveries of their 65K Hertz commitment, which they have started delivering this year as part of their 50K production number.

As for building the R1S and R1T in the same line, I am very skeptical if Rivian has the capacity as well as the supply resources to meet this. Mainly except for the batteries, motors, screens and ECU/MCU, the R1S is a completely different vehicle to the R1T.
First the R1S is a shorter wheelbase vehicle than the R1T, which means all new body manels, trims and materials. The R1S also has a whole extra row of seats, which means a new requirement of seats, materials, trims, leather and all the electronics and Moulds. Not to mention the rear split opening tail gate and everything involved with it. If Rivian was having issues with the supply chain for the R1T, then guaranteed it gets exacerbated once they factor in the R1S in the same production line.
Polestar did do engineering for Volvo for many years prior to Polestar production begining in 2017. The pandemic began in 2020. They had the backing and engineering of Volvo for years to test, build and perfect their products. Their cars have mostly come from Volvo concepts, with Polestar electrification. The point is that they have been in existence since 1996 and developing products with Volvo since 2010. As far as the Polestar 1 not being an intended production car, it was an attempt, but it was not financially feasible to deliver what they intended for the mass market. So the fact that they developed the Polestar 2 to meet more of a mass market vehicle is evidence of the difficulties of such work. Had Rivian been built and honed in a Ford factory with their resources, they would be much further along. When Polestar designs from top to bottom their own vehicle, not one off of a Volvo design, then you can compare apples to apples.
The lockdowns in China is the supply chain issue. Albeit easier to source the items if they are all in or near China, the transportation issue to the sales is also impacted and a part of their reduction. Evey manufacture has been impacted this way. The comment on the speed, is from concept to delivery. Polestar has years of a head start, so comeback to numbers when Rivian has been building cars for at least 5 years and compare numbers, it's that simple. All Polestars are Volvos. They are built off of Volvos, Rivians are not being built of the Maverick or Ranger or other, completely different ball game.

Central Pa and East definitely seems to be in a sweet spot for Rivian fulfillment. I still have no idea why I received my R1T in early May when my window was EOY ‘22.

My only guess is that we’re in a weird confluence of being near to a bunch of already operational service centers re: Rockville, MD; Brooklyn, NYC; etc, and being accessible re delivery logistics (easy rail access for shipping trucks from normal)
I'm not feeling that sweet spot as I'm in eastern PA (Allentown)...April 2019 preorder and my R1S moved into 4th Qtr (from May-June). Maybe I'm 'just a bit too far' from the Brooklyn and Rockville SCs. not the sweet spot here. ?

Personally I think it’s the overlapping service areas not strictly being close to this one or that one. I admit is conjecture, but it’s all I got.

So, one explanation is that the R1Ss are not ready. The problem with this is that I have seen photos of them on the production line. Perhaps those are for employees. I talked to an employee at customer service today that has not received his. Another explanation is that they can make numbers faster by staying on trucks, but I have this creeping feeling that this may be a more subtle replay of wanting to raise prices. If you can't produce anywhere near enough cars to fill orders, delay the R1S (the most expensive), weed out the early orders as much as possible, backfill when production is up with an extra $20,000 per R1S. I'm just saying, they have not been exactly angels in this process, IE the way they handled the stock release. That is why I did not avail myself of their stock offer. They were operating fast and loose with the facts about production.

I actually have the same, 20" Dark AT...That's odd, I wonder about body color choice--we all have heard about Rivian prioritizing Black Mountain interiors but not sure about exterior choices making an impact on delivery. So difficult to predict what they are doing!
I think the Black Mountain interior results in Aug / Sept timeframe, vs my Forest Edge or Ocean Coast interior timeframe of Oct-Dec.

They have been sighted on the lot in Normal. They have been sighted on the lot in Plymouth. I'd be shocked if they weren't in Irvine too. There are bound to be far fewer employee R1S deliveries than R1T deliveries since so many employees already took the R1T offer, and I'm sure there are rules against selling those on the open market.
There are Zero R1S’s at the Costa Mesa Service center (near HQ). I too have only seen the camouflaged R1S around town and agree there were many more trucks in area before their launch. We shall see….

Has anyone received an updated delivery timeline email yesterday or today? I’m wonder if the first round is all that went out. Still waiting for mine…
I am still waiting as well…

For what it's worth, the employees I spoke with at the Atlanta Service center today had never seen an R1S, and had no idea when they would be shipping to regular customers.
Honesty....goes a long way

Location is key. Keeping the location variable constant, the two persons in Denver that posted Aug/Sept delivery windows have Black interior, pre-ordered after me; I’m in Denver without Black interior and have Oct-Dec.

I have friends and neighbors that have taken delivery of their R1T, and I live 31 miles from the service center. My Guide didn’t have any insight as to our delay.

Any chance there is a shareholder factor? Curious who may have lost lots of money on the max IPO buy (like me) and then doubled down for way more shares (like me, and still losing). I think they are taking pity on the stock losers ;-)

I bought max ipo and doubled as well. Cost average is $86. Didn’t help my estimate :)
