Hey all!

Lurking on the forums for a while. Helped my father in law order an R1T earlier in the year and went on a 1st drive together. As a Tesla owner who's lease is up in 22 months, the R1T is the clear winner in terms of next vehicle. Personally I think it's the best overall car on today's market.

My goal is to place an order today so that I have a chance to take delivery prior to mid 2024. Ideally I'd like the dual motor based on current price and my needs. HOWEVER if this group feels the dual will be much longer I'd consider the quad. Also being elidable for the tax rebate is a huge factor. Meaning if the quad is more up front however a sooner delivery vs dual means it would qualify for full tax break I'd probably lean towards that.

I understand this is basically a total educated guess but figured I'd ask the experts in this forum. Thanks!

If you place a reservation today aren't you only locking in your "place" in line? You're not pre-ordering a specific configuration, that functionality was changed in the last website update. Unless I missed something....The point being just place the reservation even if you're only somewhat sure you want the vehicle and you can change it as you wish later in the process or refund the deposit all together. If you're generally a lucky chap, you could find yourself a winner of the Rivian lottery and they could call you tomorrow and ask you to lock your config.

I totally forgot to bring that up! You’re right nothing is locked in so I guess it doesn’t matter yet?

To my knowledge, no. That's the whole point, so that in the future they can change whatever they want and not face another price-gate backlash. What matters now is when you get further in the process and need to lock your config or get a shop invite. At that point you'd have to decide on what you want. As an aside I'd throw whatever timing Rivian has produced up to this point out the window on the dual motor version. To be generous they're less than exact with the deadlines they impose on themselves so I'd prepare to consider only the configs are offered in 12 moths or whenever you start to really consider things. Who knows maybe they'll be on time with the dual motor and I'm wrong.

Yeah good point. Gotta place my reservation today! Side note saw my first lightning in person over the weekend. As expected way bigger than the Rivian. I liked more than a regular f150 but basically same thing.

Just reserved an R1T! Noticed they no longer ask you about your configuration? When we reserved my father in laws R1T earlier this year we had to chose options.

RJ said earlier this year they are ahead of schedule on the dual motor and the LFP battery.

wondering what that means in terms of timeline. I got a late 2023 delivery comment when I placed my reservation this morning. My current lease is up 4/1/24 so anytime prior to that would be ideal.

In Rivian-speak, “ahead of schedule” could mean “we may actually release on time”.

How did you get a delivery estimate so quickly?

looks like new reservations don’t pick their setup anymore. And before you click confirm it says we estimate new reservations will deliver late 2023.

So many here wouldn’t consider that “your” delivery estimate. Rivian has sent a few emails out over the last year with order-specific estimates. But new reservations haven’t gotten any of those, yet.

Right agreed. It’s more so a rough estimate in general how far out they are. I have another reservation from January with no solid ETA yet so I get it.

Ah, I see that on the reservation page now.

TBH, that makes me all the more frustrated at my 2H 2023 estimate for my November 2020 reservation.

I'm honestly struggling to understand how a 2H2023 makes sense in your case when you have a config that's been seen by the literal truck load.
