Everyone with 21" wheels and a tread depth gauge, please go measure what you currently have and on how many miles.
I've got 3500 miles so far and thinking my tread wear is crazy high.
Nothing excessive on hard driving but I do have a lot of stops on my daily commute of 12 miles through two smaller towns, perhaps that is my issue.

Are you going to share your own tread depth after 3500 miles?

Edit: for reference, Tire Rack lists the original tread depth as 10/32".

As the OP, it would be super helpful if your disclosed your findings....

I don't have the exact numbers in front of me now but when I measured I believe it was 8.5/32" on the rears and 8/32" on the front.
Was going to update when I got home this evening.
Lack of my numbers shouldn't prevent other people from sharing theirs however ;)

Also tire pressure is needed.

If you can measure outer, mid and inner treadler for each corner, it would give a better indication of if its just tire issue or vehicle related.

I'm just over 3k miles and the tires measure 9/32" in the middle and slightly under that on the outsides.

So preliminary data would suggest a life of roughly 10-15k miles on a set. We'll see how that evolves as the data set grows larger.

Is that normal for such a heavy vehicle?

No but it sure makes it hard for anyone other than you to determine if you're experiencing exceptional wear or not.

I've never owned a 7000+ lb vehicle before but I do expect that to cause faster wear than most may be expecting. Additional data shared here will reveal how normal this is for the R1.

In comparison, I can get nearly 30k miles out of Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season on my Volvo which weighs about 3000 lbs less and that is a slightly more aggressive tread compound than the Scorpion Verde. I used to get about 13k miles out of Michelin PS2 summer tires on my old 400hp BMW 330i which weighed about 3900 lbs less than the Rivian.

For additional consideration, as always YMMV, but the AT's seem to be tracking to 20-25k miles or more for tread life. This is based on data reported by people having already driven half that, and aligns with the rate of wear I am seeing at 4k. Now, the AT also start with more depth than the 21's, but that's something to think about for anyone split between them. I would expect the 22's to wear the fastest of the three (softest rubber).

For other comparisons, my Continental tires on the eTron were nearing replacement when I traded it in at 22k miles. They were 21" all season. I have heard many M3 owners say they got 10-15k miles on theirs.

Tires will most definitely wear faster in an EV than in an ICE vehicle, that's for sure. At least for now until more advanced technology (which is already happening with EV specific tires). More weight and more torque, classic recipe for wearing out a tire.

Local driving w/lots of turns also wears tires faster than driving more straight line limited access roads.

Might as well not even rotate them if you're only going to get 10k miles out of a set. Here's hoping Michelin comes out with a long life efficiency tire in the right size.

As a Tesla Y owner I can attest to faster tire wear. Based on tire wear it looks like we are on track to replace the entire set at around 18k miles.

If you don' rotate, you will likely see significantly less life for 2 of the tires.
