If anyone's interested, this is what's under the sharkfin, it lost it's battle against the garage door in an over exuberant parking incident (wife: "I needed to pee"!). Damage is mostly cosmetic, but need Rivian to reinstall the fin properly, as there's 3 screws holding in in place (you can still see one peeking through), that are now all lost under the trim. Not sure how to pop that panel off for better access (or if I want to).

Hard to tell from this angle but it looks like they could shorten it by an inch or two. Not sure how that would impact reception.

It's very snug inside the fin cover. You could maybe lop the top corner of the PCB off to find 10mm, but you're not getting much. Here's a pic from the other side, it's made by TE, but I'm not seeing it as a standard part in their catalog.

From the look of it, an aftermarket stubby antenna that rotated the PCB 90 degrees is totally plausible (at the expense of some reception, no doubt). Would be nice for some canopy camper solutions.

Worth noting (according to the Dallas SC) that the shark fin is not a part that can be ordered without the rear spoiler assy, so should you need one, it's $1068.65. Doesn't sound right to me, I'll be taking the shark fin back off to look for a p/n (since I didn't want to pay for a new spoiler/install at a total of $1770).

For $1,770... no thanks! If I needed a replacement- I'd fire up the 3D printer and make one from scratch and save $1,750. I Just looked on thingiverse, there are plenty that could be re-made (via sketchup, etc..) to work on the Rivian.

Yeah, that's the plan. I'll need to use a bit of wet & dry and respray it to get it back to new, but that's all, easy little project.

Recently someone did something similar and it put a crack in their roof, so be thankful that didn't happen. :)

I agree with you and others...some liberal VHB tape and you'll forget it ever happened.

That someone was me, or at least, my better half.

Oh geeze, shows how much I'm paying attention! I thought it was crazy that two people would have had the same exact experience! Any idea how the impact cracked the glass? Transfer through the screws/tape?

That would be my guess. I watched in back on the security cameras, it looked incredibly trivial, but I think the shark fin kind of tipped forward as it caught the edge of the (rising) garage door, and pushed in down into the spoiler slightly before detaching. The crack however, was on the inside layer, s I guess it caused just enough of a deflection before detaching to cause the inner layer to split/crack. At the time, my wife had no idea anything bad had happened, there was no foreboding crack or anything. She did need to pee though, so her attention was elsewhere ?
