Thank you for sharing. Anything damaged inside, behind the bumper, any sensors malfunctioning? Sandy Munro's video talks about too many bolts and two of them poking out here.
Hey said camera system and I assume probably any radar sensors / collision sensors. AC fan as well, etc..... Being not really mass produced, this is probably expected.... definitely test bed car in that case.

I think for my truck Rivian is sending generic parts and the collision center has to paint it to match my truck to speed up the process.
It's the same with every autobody repair, all parts have to be painted to match the car, nothing comes pre-painted.
FWIW I’ve heard of many different vehicles spending 1-3 months at body shops over the last couple years. Lots of parts shortages, even for very common cars/ trucks.
This true. I'm sure it is exacerbated because of the newness and lack of part inventory for the R1T. But join the club, supply chain issue extend to autobody repair too! If you had a new Bronco you'd be in the same boat.

Good luck with the repair, hope it happens sooner than you expect.

I don't think a Bronco is going to be 29k for that kind of damage.

It's not great news for those of us who have to rely on insurance. Rivian insurance quoted me double what my last carrier did so I didn't switch, but that may be a necessity with what people are getting quoted for repair work, insurers aren't just going to hand that kind of scratch over without some work.

The traffic was going extremely slow, we were doing 20-25mph. The people in front of me were braking and coming to a complete stop. I tried doing the same but my truck wasn't slowing down and it felt like the system took over my brakes and it didn't matter how hard I apply the brakes it wasn't really slowing down. My wife felt the same that it was sliding on the ice.

This sounds very odd.

I believe I have like 50-60 tickets open lol
Just to list a few AC vents never worked for me lol (they like to blow air only in one direction, I have learnt though that they have fixed this issue via OTA), driver+ (I stopped using it and when it rains it sees invisible things and brakes for no reason or drives where ever. My rental now has lane feature and that works a lot better lol. The cruise control was a joke in R1T), the truck pulls to one direction is the other one.
It was flat road and sunny day. We were coming back from the beach :)
Hopefully it will upload the picture now!

Wow, that sounds scary, where exactly is the brake pedal, never have had to use mine :)

This means insurances are going to skyrocket if every dent seems to cost 20k+

Very odd that all cameras need replacing because one of them has a broken bracket. This is the second recent thread highlighting excessive repair costs and a general lack of repairability. Not good.

Only thing that would explain this to me was if it was the OP's first time hitting the brakes hard enough to require the use of the physical brakes, and the calipers just plain didn't do anything. My truck stops pretty quick considering its heft. Even new brakes should have been able to stop from 20 mph in 3 seconds.
I changed my own brakes then backed right into my wife’s car. I was slamming on the brakes but the calipers had been opened to add the brake pads and I didn’t pump the brakes multiple times to close the calipers. First time I did my own brakes. Won’t do that again. Probably $8000 of damage between my back end and my wife’s front end.

Perhaps OP’s brakes had literally never been applied even once in their existence? That could explain this.

Pump your brakes a few times folks to make sure they’re making contact.

I have a 02 WRX around 2007 I took it to a local quick lube place. Oil change seems to go fine but a few blocks away I notice smoke coming from the Exhaust. Head back to the place and as I pull in the drive way the transmission explodes. For the most part the owner of the shop is cool asks if we can fix it at his friends shop, not wanted to get his insurance involved. I decline and say I’d preferred to take it to the dealer. He’s fine with this and calls his insurance and off it goes to the dealer. What happen is they drained the trans and double filled the motor. It took nearly 3 months to get my car back and the invoices is $23k for new trans supporting parts and labor.

Five years before I paid $26k for the car. If I knew or was going to cost that much I would have asked for a check and either upgraded to a STI or done the work my self and walked away with $10k

Wow! Do you have a photo of the car you hit? It must look much worse…and what was the estimate to get that vehicle repaired?

best of luck!

Sorry to hear about your accident but glad you’re ok.
This experience isn’t unique to Rivian though. I had an Audi q7 that was 3 years old and got rear ended at a stop light. Almost no visible damage besides a rip in the bumper. But there was damage to the aluminum structure underneath. There was only one body shop in all of New England that Audi would sell the parts to. Took a month to get the final estimate (pre Covid). Was over $30k and they totaled it instead.
Expensive vehicles in low speed accidents can still have very expensive repairs. It’s not just a Rivian problem.

I would think they test all that stuff at the factory before it's even loaded up on a truck. That might not catch a fluid leak though.

Been a while since I made that mistake you made. Never hit anything but definitely very quickly threw the trans in my truck into park.
