Our 11 1/2 year old Spinone has some arthritis, so we use these to help her get in and out of our Q5's back seat. These get her to the same level as the bottom of the door, so she steps on the door threshold and then onto the hammock/seat.

Don't know if the R1T might need taller steps though.

Dog is one of the biggest reasons we are going R1S.

No flat floor in the rear cab was a huge oversight for function, IMO. Folding the R1T bench forward makes the rear area a slot canyon, not nearly wide enough for a medium or large dog (we have an 80lb Great Pyr mix). Leaving the bench down makes an awfully high leap from ground to bench for the dog. Of course I can help lift her, but as she gets older I just don’t think it would be kind to make her do that. R1S with a crate it is, and a ramp eventually.

If I did have an R1T, I would make every attempt to remove the 60-split half of the rear bench bottom and the cubby area. It’s not ideal if you have rear passengers routinely, but it seems like the best option for routine dog passengers.

Just a cover for the rear seat and my dog and her mud gets in there just fine. I’ve been using a canvas tarp but have a hammock on the way. That will also keep her from joining us up front to watch the road and getting the center console muddy.

i am going this route - but have to make a custom kennel - I don’t want to have to remove the kennel to close the tonneau when the dog isn’t in it.
