R1T Orders: Dec '22 - Jan '23 -- Status Room

On the vehicle summary page during 8 steps, does anybody configurations says manual compatible? I grab mine from the shop and believe it did say it there just do not remember but its not listed in the vehicle summary. Guide has not been no help.

Not sure if this is the right thread to add my initial reaction notes, but here you go…

Picked up my 155XX Rivian Blue with bright 22s from the Richmond SC tonight. My schedule was for 5:30pm but I showed up early at 5pm and they were grateful since it was the last pickup of the day. NGL the truck looked amazing and it was the best first experience with an R1T (within arm’s reach).

Went through the usual setup routine and walkaround. I didn’t bother trying to go through the Google Doc checklist since it was dark out and my wife would’ve gotten super impatient. The Rivian rep (Shaunda?) was super friendly but also let me know I have 10 days to report any issues (in hindsight I assume she means fit and finish stuff). I did make sure to check for panel gap, alignment, and open/close issues around the truck. Everything worked perfectly and/or as expected (based on anecdotes from other owners).

Driving back to our hotel (we’re staying overnight), the driving experience was rock solid. Sport mode did feel a little… for lack of a better word… finicky at times wrt regen/acceleration. There was nothing wrong per se, but something about the behavior in that mode felt like the truck was trying to “figure things out” sometimes.

The center display is very nice. Crisp, responsive, exactly what I’d expect from a vehicle at this price. I like the overall UI, but I found a number of actions somewhat unintuitive; e.g. it took me a very long time to figure out where the cabin lighting controls were hidden. And I still can’t find the roomy entry settings to make a slight change (note: I finally figured it out after Googling just now).

The door handle is easy to operate, but (as a large guy) the location is a little unwieldy. It’s definitely an intentional act to open the door each time. Same goes for the seat belt (I already bent a nail on the center console). These are not huge issues and are probably mostly specific to my experience, but worth mentioning.

All in all, it feels like a really solid vehicle so far. Loving my first experience and looking forward to playing with it more tomorrow.

Glad your pickup went well. I picked mine up at 4 and saw your truck ready and waiting. I had an hour drive back home to figure things out. I can't believe how well this truck drives!

How have people been getting through the 8 steps so quick (at least 6 of 8)? I am still waiting on my bank so I can attach a pic of the check and tracking number (step 4 I think). I'm referring to the ones that get 6 steps done in one day. Are people just using different methods of payment?

Oh, I forgot to mention an interesting comment from the Rivian rep today… she mentioned that my truck was “one of the very last” to get the air compressor included stock. I was very surprised to hear this; I know that many of the options (spare tire, tonneau, etc) were moving to the Gear Store, but this is the first time I’d heard anyone refer to the air compressor as an option. I’m not sure if she was misinformed, I just missed it elsewhere, or this is genuine news.

I hope it’s some misunderstanding, that would be a huge removal. One of the R1’s most unique features. Worse would be if they outright remove it from production (it is still listed on the website as included in the bed).

We’re paying cash. It’s a simple ACH. The only step that’s holding us up is 8. We’re picking up at the factory and expect that step to open up Monday. We’re not trading a car. The contract was quick. Our insurance broker will issue the proof of coverage when we have the delivery date. So, pretty quick.

I don’t know if I’d put too much stock in what they said. While CS and our guide have been great, they seems to find out very little about the production process.

We’re actually getting a Launch Edition. Our guide had no idea it was LE when he matched us to the available VIN. When I asked if it was an old truck sitting around he said nope, manufactured 12/1/22. He did some digging and found out they are randomly making some LE R1Ts through end of year. It lowered our price $2,500 because the 20” AT are now included! We’ll probably have one of the few LE R1T with the manual tonneau.
