Somehow, I just can’t see BYD’s newly launched “YangWang” EV brand name playing too well in the U.S. market. Sounds too much like something that should be done in private.

Chinese EV maker BYD’s YangWang brand says its YangWang U8 4x4 will be, “built on a ladder frame chassis and comes equipped with four electric motors, one for each wheel, for an estimated total power output of over 1,100 bhp and more than 1,200 lb-ft of torque.”

And what are those three hideous protrusions on the leading edge of the roof line? Those iPad-sized rear view mirrors certainly can’t be helping the aerodynamics. Front end looks like a bad reinterpretation of a Chevy Silverado front end. YMMV.

Actually, in Swahili that does mean what you are inferring (j/k). It looks interesting. Never considered China as a serious auto manufacturer but perhaps they have cracked the code.

New Defender with a Tundra vibe? And, lots of superflous tacked on thingees. It's not my favorite look. Could be o.k. if it were cleaned up.

China produces more than twice the number of vehicles than the U.S. each year. They have brands that will never make it to the U.S., but they don’t care. They have the fastest growing car market in the world.

Some China brands have broken into the European market, but yeah we will never see them here. But I believe Xpeng/Nio/BYD are looking into the NA market.

On top of it all, Nio is the first to deploy a battery swap service which is active in China and have launched in Europe.

China is killing it in the EV market that even Tesla is struggling to compete with them.

I watched Kyle Connor’s review of the Nio and their battery swap. I don’t see that catching on in the US. But yes, to your point China is full speed ahead. I think it’s China and Europe that will push the US into electric vehicles. US automakers need to sell worldwide and the ICE is dying much faster elsewhere around the world.

If you compare apples to apples then some of those 300 are subsidiaries of a larger company (sister companies) much like Ram, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep. Then you also have growing US companies (that are larger than some of the 300 in china) like Tesla, Rivian, and other non-producing start-ups. So yes, china is over populated with manufacturers but the gap is really closer to 10:1 not 100:1.

Can’t argue with that. Even at 10:1 it shows how the car industry in china is booming. I guess it just bums me out that here we 3or4 car companies and a lot of people including the gobermint like to shit all over 1.

Just having a bunch of companies making cars is not necessarily a good thing for quality, safety, etc. Although I agree we probably don’t have enough here. But China also has 3+ times the population we do.
