My guide mentioned the last few deliveries he had, customers weren't receiving their chargers until 5-7 days after their vehicle delivery. I was hoping for 1-2 weeks BEFORE vehicle delivery. If you've taken delivery recently, has that been your experience?

Really going to be a bummer if I get it and have to trickle charge the first week.

The portable charger comes with the truck, so if you have a 14-50 outlet in your garage, you can charge at 32A off it. IMO even if you get something hardwired, it would be a good idea to have the contractor also install the outlet to use as a backup in case something goes wrong with the Rivian EVSE.

That's the problem, my dryer outlet is about 30' away from my parking spot. That charging cable is 18' long.

Might be worth the extra couple hundred bucks to just order one from the gear shop ahead of time.

I took deliver mid dec. Got my EVSE 1 day before delivery. However, I completed my 8 steps 2 days before delivery if that matters

I don't know if I'm lucky, or if this is the start of a new policy. My EVSE shipped the same day I was assigned a VIN. I won't see my truck for 6-8 weeks, but I have plenty of time to get it installed. I really appreciate it.

yes; basically everyone has received after
Absolutely not true.
Perhaps things have changed just recently, but up to the point when I received my R1T in September almost everyone was uniformly receiving their charger weeks *before* they received their vehicle. The pattern was that Rivian would ship the charger a few days after the 8-steps were opened. There is plenty of discussion about this in these forums, with people wondering how they could ship the chargers before they even received payment, etc.

I personally received my charger three weeks before my R1T (and it sat on my front porch for almost a week because they didn't tell me they were going to ship it and I was out of town that week, but that's another story ...) But since electricians are totally booked up around here, I couldn't get it installed in that timeframe anyway unless I wanted to pay emergency service prices.

Also note that chips for power electronics, like used in chargers, are in VERY short and spotty supply right now. For example, ChargePoint, whose business is making chargers, does not have ANY ChargePoint Home Flex in stock right now. https://www.chargepoint.com/drivers/home/chargepoint-home-flex
This is not a Rivian failing - the entire industry is having problems delivering chargers right now.

So again, while the Rivian chargers may be shipping after the vehicle for some right now, this is not Rivian's policy or established practice in general.

I got mine the day of my scheduled delivery. My delivery was delayed a week because the rear drive unit failed inspection so they had to fix it, so technically I had my charger a week before my truck.

Mine was over a week after truck. Maybe in a few years, once the early adopter period is over, they will execute that better.

I got my rivian charger on Tuesday (yesterday) and my delivery is scheduled for Monday, a six day window to have the charger installed. Luckily I have an electrician who will do it on Monday, likely while the car is being delivered.

Extension cord? I bought one for under $100. A little clunky but may be useful in the future.

If that’s true I apologize. My experience and my recollection of the balance of commentary here is otherwise; when I was navigating delivery, charger deliveries were delayed.

In either case, a delayed charger (at least for us) was barely a minor inconvenience. We made sue with the portable charger and visited a dcfc locally once while waiting for it.
