99% of the time I don't want or need the kneel mode.

The rare occasions that I do are getting my elderly mother in and out, unloading something heavy from the frunk, and occasional ATMs.

Currently I solve this by temporarily putting it in sport mode but it would be great if I could just press "kneel" and then when I next put the car in drive it go back to the normal suspension height.

That's a very good idea. And it would be best if it wasn't buried too deep in the menu. Right next to Car wash mode would be ideal.

Sport goes lower than kneel mode anyway. I don't know why Rivian decided to do it this way but it's probably a drivability concern.

Doesn't that make it kneel every time you park? I don't want that. I want to be able to push a button and do it the 2% of the time where I do want it.
it does, but also gives the option to cancel the kneel when you park by pressing the right scroll wheel in immediately after.

Huh. Good to know. I guess I'm better off doing it my way.

Still not what I'm looking for. That means that 98% of the time I have to press the button as opposed to pressing a button the 2% of the time I want it.

I want it for that 1-in-20 times when it doesn't go back into kneel because I adjusted the truck, but didn't drive far enough to trigger "go into kneel again on next park".

I said this before, but I still think there could be a pop-up similar to the garage one that opens when you put the vehicle into park. It would include several actions you might want to trigger in park, for example:
  • Manual Kneel Mode
  • Trigger Easy-exit Seat
  • HVAC:
    • Pet Mode
    • Keep On
    • Camp Mode
  • Lighting:
    • Switch to Parking lights (until you put the vehicle in gear again)
    • Turn off all lights (ditto)
    • Turn on all exterior lighting (i.e., front-and-back fogs as well as mirror flood lights)
    • Turn off dome lights temporarily
Basically a quick-action screen for common actions so you don't have to dig through screens to find them.

When it's raining and I take my daughter to the bus stop, I usually switch the headlights to parking lights and turn off the dome lights. It's no big deal, but it's in 2 places (stalk + screen), and the headlights don't immediately go back when you put it in gear, only if you get above 5mph or something. It's super minor, these would just be nice little improvements.

i take my young kids to school every day and put it in sport once i get into the drop off line-- low isn't low enough and it pauses when the door is opened so it defeats the purpose for my use case. my way works just as well as a kneel mode button, but how cool would it be to adjust ride height/drive modes via the app?!

What mode do you drive in? Kneel only goes to “low”, not ”lowest”, so if you are in all-purpose you are only two taps from doing what you want. Tap drive mode screen then “low”. Or you can set it to stay in low all the time.

I agree, I don't like using kneel mode all the time, but I drop it into sport/lowest for kids pickup. Works fine, but I am afraid I might accidentally do 0-60 launch out of the playground parking lot...?
