Using your math as an example: let's say 6 calls per guide, 10 guides, 5 days. That's 300 calls next week. If that means 300 trucks delivered in June (within 30 days of a call), I think that qualifies as expectations met.

That said, my guess is there will be quite a few more guides and less time between getting a call and getting your truck - on average and for someone ready to take delivery. I don't see any reason they can't begin to deliver trucks by mid-June.

I will say at this point if no one was contacted by a guide on here yet, especially the super early Nov 2018 pre-orders, they are NOT going to deliver or at most a handful of R1T's in June. I will assume that everyone will have questions for the guides. I would think it will be a 2 hour call? Maybe 1 hour? So realistically that would be 4-8 calls a day per guide. And how many are there? If they start calling next week, and there are a dozen, then that would not be many calls.
2 hours? If a guide calls me, I promise to make it super easy and finish the call in 10 min so they could get through more calls. Increase their productivity and boost their confidence.

Seriously, how long does it take to do this?

This could be my first and last sentence as soon as they call ?
That would be my first sentence but my second and last sentence would be which door should I enter at the Normal plant to pick up my LE R1T?

I have a feeling that Rivian and Lucid will be the last two EV startups, at least outside of Asia, that will have any prospect of success.

When I reserved my Lucid Air in September 2018 and my Rivian R1S in February 2019, I thought I'd be waiting a year or maybe two to get the vehicles, based on the timelines that were put out at the time. As those waits are now stretching toward three years, the only thing that has kept me holding on was the lack of other EVs that had the range, luxury, or utility I wanted. (As a matter of fact, I am so frustrated with Lucid delays that I was thinking I might switch to a Mercedes EQS until I saw what a chrome-laden, quilted leather, video arcade of a mess it was.)

The legacy manufacturers have been late to show up, but they're now in the EV game -- Ford, VW, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia. They're still behind the technology curve compared to Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid, but they will start closing the gap before long. And whatever technology advantages remain with startups will probably no longer be enough to keep consumers waiting for years to get that technology bump.

I doubt if from this date forward anyone will be willing to wait three years for a startup to deliver an EV to them . . . and that means that the 5+ years required for an EV startup to get to market will no longer be available to new entrants.

I hope the delays are over and both Rivian and Lucid finally get their products to market on the current schedules. If I don't hear from a Rivian guide by late November, I won't be around to take the call or answer the email.

I wonder if you are allowed to wait with your LE reservation when a guide contacts you and, if you can, how many people will move ahead of those that want to wait to see the Rivian in person. I would assume waiting a bit is an option. I know there are enough people who would gladly jump in sight unseen.

The first person on this forum who is contacted by a guide will have multiple hour-long conversations as we keep sending them questions to ask….
After that the rest of our calls will be brief!

If the guide will handle the paperwork for you, etc, then it will at least be an hour IMO. When I bought my Tesla, the person that dropped it off at my house was here for over an hour, mostly with some of the paperwork. So if they want you to lock in and go over agreements, I think it will take longer than you would think.

Seems awfully long for me. I figure a short 15 minute or less call and perhaps a series of emails.

I will, since I want to see the car in person with all color options and preferably test drive it too

My call with the Rivian guide should be 5 min or less:
Guide: Hi this is [insert name] from Rivian. We have a Launch Edition in your area that matches your Adventure configuration. The person that originally ordered was unable to take delivery, would you be interested in purchasing this vehicle?
Me: YES!
Guide: OK great. I will update your Rivian online account with the vehicle information. Please login to finalize the purchase, get financing and insurance if needed, and select the type of delivery you want. After that we will schedule the delivery.
Me: YES!

I certainly would prefer to see and test drive the R1T prior to purchase, however, it is not a requirement for me. I have been on the waiting list since Christmas 2018 and two Christmases have gone by since then (I must be on Santa’s naughty list). Plus waiting for the road show to come to Cleveland would most likely delay my delivery even further.

Buying sight unseen is not that big of a risk to me for several reasons:
1) I ordered Midnight so I know what it’s going to look like...Awesome! No risk that the shade is not quite right like if it were Launch Green. I have owned 10 vehicles over the years and they were all black and looked fabulous regardless of manufacturer so I know the Rivian will look perfect to me.
2) I have always test drove those vehicles but my test drives were super short, maybe 15 minutes tops. I have 7 days and 1000 miles to test drive my Rivian. No risk.
3) Heck, if I hate it I can easily sell the Rivian to someone that doesn’t want to wait over a year.

I have little doubt that I will dislike my Rivian, but in case I do if anyone is interested in a Midnight Launch Edition R1T, with Midnight interior and 22” wheels I’ll sell it to you at my cost plus a bottle of good bourbon.
