Well sure if you have a full battery there is limited regen. If you're going down an entire mountain it's also going to be limited but as someone who IS an owner if you charge to 70% and are doing day to day driving regen is perfectly adequate and does not fluctuate at all.
I've only had mine for a week. But I had the "limited regen" warning go on for me twice today. I was at less than 65% SOC. I went from 6200 feet (Lake Tahoe) up to 7200 feet (Brockway Summit on highway 267) to 5900 feet (Truckee Airport). The warning came on for the downhill in both directions, less than halfway down the road.

Though I don't remember it happening when I was coming down Donner Summit to Truckee last week after I picked it up in Sacramento. This is roughly the same elevation drop, but my SOC was was much lower, high 20s I think.

I also have a Volvo C40 (also an EV) and I've road tripped it up and down the whole west cost, including the eastern Sierra, along with Tahoe to SF many many times. Never seen this kind of issue with that car.

That said, still loving the R1T.

So going down a mountain.
I wouldn't call 1,000 foot vertical going down a mountain.

The drive from Donner Summit to Sacramento on the other hand, that's a 7,200 foot descent. That's going down a mountain. My C40 has done that many many times. No regen weirdness at all.

1,000 feet in lost elevation in what a couple miles? Yeah that's a pretty steep descent. IDK why the Rivian is less regen but for most people what you're experiencing isn't something that most people deal with.

Yeah it is fairly steep. And the Rivian has 2000 pounds on the Volvo. And I agree most people won’t hit this.
