I can't imagine these bands having enough profit margin to be anything but a very low priority.

I'd have to disagree on this point.. RFID chips are literally pennies in bulk nowadays.
Even Tesla who are never shy about charging for products will sell you two RFID key cards in a wallet shipped via FEDEX for $35.

We've seen reports of Rivian selling the wristband for $100 and charging $60 to program it!
Huge markups on probably $2-3$ of materials!!

It was a few months back, but my vehicle (adventure edition) was in at the service center and I just asked them if i could buy a key from them while i was there. They said sure, charged me $100 for the wristband key and $60 for the programming.

I received both wristbands before I left the office today. I tried the @Stevetom84 method, but things went a bit differently.

I provided the wristband codes and told my chat rep I have both an R1T and R1S. He asked which code I would like associated with which car. After I provided my preferences he said he submitted the requests to the Provisioning Department and that it'll take 2 business days to process. I was not asked to submit a service ticket in the app.

So we'll see how this goes. I shall wait until Tuesday.

Then you've just made an argument towards it being a poor value for customers? To each his own. There is no denying that Rivian is focused on deliveries and service backlog (evident in expansion of mobile service fleet).

Both wristband keys just showed up in my app! Success!

EDIT: ...and just tested on both cars and they work!

I’ve lost one key fob already, the clip is not that strong and it fell off and cost me $275 to replace. the phone sometimes takes awhile to work. Im in sales so I get in and out of the car all day long. I’d love another option like the band or a finger print on door handle or even face recognition if you want to go further into the future! Just my two cents….

No argument from me that at $160 the wristband is a terrible value for customers!
But your original statement that I replied to was "I can't imagine these bands having enough profit margin to be anything but a very low priority", not it's eventual value to the customers. I think you can agree that selling an item that costs $2-3$ to manufacture for $160 represents a huge markup?

These wristbands should be selling at $25 max considering it's just an RFID chip that's $1 at most (same chip that's in the key cards so they are buying them bulk) and a TPU/Rubber wristband that is probably $1 or so to manufacture.
Rivian is 100% gouging customers at $160-$275 for this ridiculously inexpensive item mostly because they are the only source for it.

Of course not for the Rivian, but the same RFID technology and wristband design... from Ebay and these are retail prices, so cost is probably 50% of these prices.

Maybe the reason they don’t make more wristbands is they aren’t very good. And they don’t want to spend time improving with such a small use case.

Right now, I want my PAAK to work every time, all the time. Many times I have to pull my phone out of my pocket and no, my pockets don’t have Faraday pouch built in, though my
Rivian acts like they do!

I am shocked this hasnt happened already. RJ proudly sports an AppleWatch Ultra with the yellow band.

Tesla doesn’t have it either. Muse be something with the AppleWatch SDK or something else that makes it harder or less secure. I don’t know enough about it, but it seems easy and like there’s huge demand.

Much more so that what looks like a $100 slap bracelet.

RFID is kind of crap use for everyday usage. If I wanted to to wait outside of my car and touch it to unlock, I could do that with a Ford Fiesta. Just get PAAK to work. Anyone know if the new update helps? It says in the notes PAAK response was improved.

My hope is they’re actually working on watch as a key and aren’t wasting time on the music festival bracelet anymore.

Each manufacturer uses their own encryption protocol and hardware ID's.. none of the ebay examples would work on our Rivian. I just showed them to demonstrate how inexpensive the item Rivian sells for $160-$275 is on the open market where there is competition.
