I know the Bellevue SC has a 2nd shift. The new location was supposed to be open by now however still has permitting issues. Apparently the location straddles 2 permitting jurisdictions. Can't find an active permit on the Seattle SDCI site.
I can confirm round-the-clock work at the Bellevue, Washington, Pacific Northwest, United States of America, North America, Earth, Sol System, Milky Way, Our Universe... Service Center. My truck had nothing done at 9pm last night parked out front and is now complete and in a different location at 6am. So no, service centers are not closing at 5pm despite the times listed on their website and Google.

Sorry to feed the troll, but had to get facts out there.

I actually agree with you on all of that. My post above about our staff not picking up shifts would appear to be at odds with what you said, but it's not. We don't force our staff to pick up extra hours at any point, even when we are short staffed because IMO it's the quickest way to burn everyone out as fast as possible. Everyone has a different threshold for what they can handle. All we ask from them is that we get their best when they are at work. We don't bother them outside of that time even a little bit.

The problem is, when those people who only work 20 hours per week are complaining about having no money and blaming us for it. Or expecting us to keep scheduling extra people when things slow down. We are fine with whatever number of hours they choose to work - just stop whining about it. Hold yourself accountable for your own choices. Don't order DoorDash 2 meals a day or spend thousands on tattoos every year then blame others when you have trouble paying your rent. I own the company and I pack my lunch every day to save money. They can do it too. I grew up doing shift work and we have tried very hard to make our business better than the places I worked at when I was young. It doesn't have to be torture.

I appreciate the dialogue. I don't think we're misaligned in your example.

The ...spirit...of this post struck a nerve. The expectation and implications of the way it was recommended were for sure not putting people first.

For what it's worth, I think staffing service centers *as a whole* is an issue. I don't think throwing a 3rd shift at it is going to fix the service backlog anytime soon. But I'm not an insider, for sure. And I could very well be wrong.

One thing I experienced (in college, and promptly walked out) was my employer at the time not giving me an option. They wanted 3rd shift and I was told that's what my new shift assignment would be. I told them it wouldn't happen (school is more important than the paycheck at the time, and I wasn't starving), and they wouldn't renege the insistence, so I walked out. My fear would be that you convince a company to start a 3rd shift, they can't find staff, and then they start volun-telling the current staff they need to pick up shifts. These people have to feed themselves and their families and aren't in the situation I was in (fortunate enough to be able to walk away). See where this may become a concern?

Absolutely I do see how it could be trouble. I had similar experiences at past jobs and that is one reason I wouldn’t force anything like that on our employees. It’s not that hard to be a decent boss or company. Just don’t treat your people any differently than you would want to be treated.

just as a practical matter I think you’re right that most service centers are understaffed, which to me would make it impossible to add another shift anyway. If you can barely staff your day shifts you can’t even consider adding a night shift.

Sorry to disappoint but the Richmond Service Center does. Just the facts.

Having to wait a month to get our trucks back and spending alot more on gas is not some rich person complaining, and I may never understand the hate that some people have for people who are smart with their money? Im not mega rich like some on here that bought the R1-T for themselves and the R1-S for the wife. Maybe that person invested in better stocks than I did. Maybe we can learn from them instead of being angry at them.

A mobile tech last month replacing missing underbody screws had a Tesla hat on ?
If he came from Raleigh, that tech is new to Rivian but worked at the Tesla shop in Raleigh for 3-4 years prior.
