I need suggestions on how to handle this orange peel issue. I took delivery a week ago and I love my R1S FG OC on 22s. However, it has orange peel all over and I've have put in a service request a day after taking delivery and seeing it as the sun went down and when I saw it I'm my garage. When I put in a request the service adviser clearly saw the issue and he scheduled me for an appt. After that I took it to a detailer who qualified to do paint correction and they could do it for a significant fee (over 2k).. I'm wondering should I let the SC correct this issue or bite the bullet and have the detailer do it. I really don't feel I shouldn't have to pay to correct an issue but I do want it properly corrected. Has anyone had paint correction done at a SC? Are you happy with the results.

Let the professional handle it and not the service center. Paint correction is normal for even cars that cost twice what you paid.

Orange peel is normal and will need paint correction / wet sanding if you want to remove it completely.

Even a brand new Lexus has bad orange peel. It’s just something the industry generally no longer care about. Multi-stage polish is labor intensive and cut into profits at a time when all manufacturing costs have increased. You won’t see this level of attention to detail unless you are dealing with high end exotics. This isn’t a Maybach, Rolls, Bentley or Bugatti.

Personally it’s a waste of time(if DIY) or money to correct since it’s not something you would notice from driver seat. But if you desire, it can certainly be improved upon. Just time and $.

I guess Lamborghini is not a "high end exotic" then. Because they are famous for orange peel.

Personally, I'm not sure why people worry about such things, it makes it look like their lives are so utterly unfulfilled that petty stuff like orange peel on a car actually matters. Especially if their personal weekend hobby is not sanding orange peel down to perfectly flat.

Lambos are high end exotics. But I most definitely didn’t say all high end exotics don’t have orange peel. People buy Lambo and Ferrari for promise of performance, image and status symbol. Not for ultimate quality/perfection.

People get hung up on cosmetics because the R1 is expensive to them and, with that, certain expectations (however unrealistic or justified those are). Their money/time, their prerogative.

Definitely covered under warranty. Patience, padawn, they will correct it.
Yes, it does seem like they'll correct it but I wonder how well of a job they'll do. They seem very responsive but not sure of the detail department. Just wondering if it's going to need paint correction after the SC paint correction.

SC won't do the correction, it'll go to their local certified shop.

Thanks for the advice. I've heard that if I don't do the paint correction but get the ceramic coat it may help. Do you know if that's true?

Thank you for your response. Detailer did say he would just live with it and have it ceramic coated and PPF the front. Just wondering if ceramic coating will intensify the orange peel look. Any thoughts?

If you're getting it coated they correct it first. It would look like shit if not because the extra depth highlights flaws.

PPF, if gloss, has the effect of laying on a smoother glossy surface. That will be the difference maker. Ceramic alone won’t make one iota of difference. It’s just a slicker barrier that reduce adhesion of fallout and debris.
