I have a 2023 R1T with quad motors. Today it appears that one (or both?) of the rear motors has gone out. There is a grinding noise that is getting worse. However, in conserve mode, it sounds normal. I imagine it's because the rear motors aren't used in conserve mode. It's still under warranty, so I'm not too worried. It's just going to be an extra hassle. It's the only major mechanical thing I've had go wrong. My question is: has anyone else had a rear motor go bad? and is it okay to drive it in conserve mode? If I could drive it 100 miles to the service center, they wouldn't have to tow it. Also, I have an appointment that is a month away. I'd like to be able to use it.

Sounds like the rear disconnect. If it sounds and drives fine in Conserve I say do it.

I would drop it off at the service center and get a loaner until they fix it. They will prioritize something like this, and they will take care of whatever other issue you're having at the same time. No need to take it in twice, so same amount of hassle whether you do it now or next month. Worst that can happen is that it breaks down part way there, but that's also possible if you just continue driving it locally. At least if you're on the way there you've already set aside the day so you'll have the time to deal with it.

Gen 2 Dual Motor, rear motor made a loud clunking sound, rear end jumped up and turtle mode came on just outside of New Orleans..
Drove it 250 miles to home and then 400 miles to Service Center in Tampa. You should be good.

I have an R1S w 45k miles on it, and on routine inspection, found to have oil loss, bad seal, not stable and rear drive needs to be replaced. I'm hearing about more and more of this...
