Here is my 2023 Limestone R1S with Hexis Bodyfence matte PPF. I installed the PPF myself... I bought a bulk roll for $950 so while I saved a boatload of money, its not a perfectly flawless job. I think you would be hard-pressed to see any of my mistakes unless you get your face within inches of it in the right spots though (some deep corners). I don't regret saving 8-9k but wrapping with PPF is not for the faint of heart. I had vinyl wrapped a few cars but PPF is MUCH harder. I ended up disassembling more of the car as I gained confidence, which helps a lot. I can always re-wrap a single panel if it gets issues too.

If anyone wants to attempt this themselves, I'm happy to share my advice. I went with Hexis due to the price. XPEL was double for the same size roll. I also wrapped it outdoors in my driveway so not an ideal setup, but I got the wrap on before any dings or scratches so now I feel very protected.

I'm jealous of the other user that installed the satin Thundercloud! I was super tempted to do this exact color (to match my turbo NA miata) myself and wrapping with Vinyl is a breeze compared to the PPF. The bulk roll of vinyl wrap would probably run about $600.

I'm tempted to black out my trim, bumper lowers and wheels but I'm kind of digging the technocar vibe that the brights give. I've also left all of my badges off and am enjoying the "what the hell is that thing?" comments. Tempting to put a Ford logo on the back for more confusion haha.

I’ve got an LA Silver R1S coming in a couple weeks that was supposed to be for my wife, but now may be for me as my Tesla Model S was just totaled last night. I might be tempted to do a wrap - either PPF just for protection or vinyl for a different color. How much should it cost for a professional install, and any drawbacks or warnings I should know of? I’ve heard if you get a rock chip or something then you have to redo the whole panel? Is that right?

I was quoted 8500 and 9500+ tax for XPEL matte PPF in socal area. I think a vinyl wrap would cost around 5-6k. If you vinyl wrap a color, the base color of the car really matters imo. For instance if you have a white car and wrap it with a darker color, the edges and cracks really show the white. You have to then wrap door jams etc vs having a black or darker car to start with. The PPF is much thicker and could take a rock without ripping. Vinyl is more likely to rip since it is thinner. That Thundercloud R1T on this thread is the first Rivian I've seen with a vinyl color and I think it looks A+. Vinyl opens up WAY more style options of course.

Created a separate post before I just saw this was a thing. Here is our R1S with stealth XPEL PPF, tint, and black/yellow emblems. Shop forgot to install the chrome delete, so it’ll go back in for that soonish!

Here is one our shop just did! He went with Xpel Stealth, Chrome delete, blacked out badges and letters and then some window tint to match the rear windows! We had a blast working on this Rivian and the installers did an awesome job! I love the stealth look on the Rivians!
