Sooo…….

Was leaving the deer blind last night, driving through an otherwise innocuous field that I’ve been driving through all week. However, earlier in the week, temps started slight below freezing - and rose to ~ 50F. Coupled with about 1”-1.25” of rain over 3 days and the field got a little swampy. I wasn’t expecting it at all, and was truly caught flat footed. Any attempt to rock back and forth just didn’t get us there.

Luckily the buddy that was with me had his full size truck at my farm building and we walked to get it and pulled my R1T out from a different angle.

”maybe” I could have got it out with more time, but since we had another truck available (albeit a mile walk), we chose that route.

Definitely one situation where such a heavy truck does not work in one’s favor.

My experience in thick mud is that the truck fights itself and won’t let you keep applying power to sling the mud out of the tread. It gets to a point where no matter what you do with the pedal the computer decides to not send the power to the wheels. Frustrating for sure. I wasn’t stuck (was trying to pull out a friend’s stuck RV) but any ICE truck I’ve had would let you turn off traction control and get some work done.

Air down before fighting it. You have a compressor to air back up after. Oh, and carrying traction mats is helpful too.

That is exactly what my experience felt like. Glad I’m not alone on that one.

Were you high centred? Or just couldn't get traction?

Couldn’t get traction; but if I were to have pushed further, being high centered wasn’t too far off. I had the suspension in maximum height and the drive mode in off-road.

Maybe time to invest in traction boards?
I got a unimog stuck in similar situation and was pulled out by a bulldozer. My winch was not enough.
I also got a 5ton truck stuck when in the Army and it took 2 tanks to get me out.
Mud can really suck.

Agreed. Bought some last night. Those would have done the trick for sure.

Ugh on the 5-ton. When I was in the Army I made sure to not get anything like that on my "army driver's license". I did have the "Tracks" (a.k.a. tank without guns) on my license. Could drive the model 323 and model 626 though. Those were fun.
