That's assuming only half the people on the reservation list cancel, but by the reactions to the underwhelming spec changes made since the original introduction in 2019 and the huge price hikes.. .we may be looking at 75% cancellation rates or higher when people get the actual email saying "it's time for you to finalize your configuration and pay". If the cancellation rate is that high, they will be through the waiting list in a year or so (after mass production begins in earnest) and then the trouble will begin.
Certainly, I’m making an assumption just like you are. I guess time will tell what happens. I don’t have a crystal ball, but history is taught me not to underestimate Tesla. They always seem to pull rabbits out of hats.

I own an R1T, love my truck but I'll be swapping over, I will always have a place In my heart for my R1T but charging and this video have changed my mind.

( you can believe the NACS B.S. but why would anyone open up all the network chargers to "help" other businesses steal what he's worked hard at building?
Answer is, He Won't.
He will open enough to get the cash they are dangling in front of him and slam the door shut. Good luck!
And watch this video.... he builds a superior product

Before this video, I dismissed this truck as a PR release, the truck is legit.
We have owned a Model X since 2019 ( performance)and got a 2022 (Plaid) lwhen our lease was up. We have been impressed with the quality of the engineering and reliability.
I have 42k miles on the R1T and have had some issues but overall had been great for a 1st year vehicle but I won't take a chance on being able to charge it away from home.
I've been on road trips from LA to Seattle and LA to Florida, I see charging networks expanding but Tesla makes them look silly.

I will be driving and enjoying this truck for as long as I need to get myself into a Cyber Truck ( it even has a stupid childish name, but it doesn't change the fact it's a better vehicle, that's reality)
THIS. Finally someone with common sense in these posts.

For me, the R1T was the “perfect” truck until they launched it… with neutered specs. The CT has its issues but overall is in a class above the R1T - self driving and charging infrastructure alone.

Neutered specs are suddenly not an issue for you?

Are you even vaguely familiar with the concept of irony?

Irony? Hmm… ? Isn’t the CT made with an irony exoskeleton?

You mean the self driving that runs stop signs and trying to run you into parked cars?

And Charging Infrastructure that the R1T will have access to before any real customers get a CT?

I think this guy actually anti-elon/tesla but cosplaying a pro-elon/tesla person. Only rational explanation.

Contemplating the motivation of someone doing that pretty much melted my brain?

This just published today: Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender option is just the beginning…

Key takeaways:
- Range Extender price may be $16k
- Probably weighs 700 lbs (28% of payload)
- Idea of renting (not buying) this pack when going on a road trip or into a charging desert

I'm intrigued by this rent-a-pack idea. I would never spend that much on a battery pack that I may use twice a year, not to mention needing to buy a lift to install/remove the thing. But if I could rent one from Rivian for a reasonable price, I'd be interested. What's a reasonable price though?

IMO stopping to charge a couple extra times would be cheaper and much easier than making 2 additional stops at a service center and whatever the cost of rental might be.

I still say that battery pack never happens. Rivian has a patent on something almost identical anyway....

Mobile service could deliver it to you and pick it up when you're done? And one use case that it could make sense for is heading into a charging desert. Or towing.

I own an R1T, delivery on 6/2/2022. I too was looking forward for the NACS, believe me, the chargers that are going to be opened to non tesla vehicles will be frustrating at best.
Elon isn't in the business to help others sell cars. He'll be doing the cash grab to get tax dollars but I can assure you, he's not your buddy being a Rivian or any other non Tesla vehicle.

It’s too heavy for a mobile service visit. I think it weighs closer to 1000 lbs, using the convention of 15kWh weighs ~300 lbs

Honestly this would make a cybertruck a good road trip vehicle for me, and I threw up in my mouth a little bit typing that out. There is a Tesla center 30 min from my house, and if I could schedule a service to rent one of these extender packs for a long trip that could halve my charging stops. Put that with the CT charging faster and you just took road trips from a little too long with charging to that sweet spot of relaxing stops and still quick.

I would of course wait to see how that all shakes out because an R1 with a little faster charging curve and access to the supercharger network would be just good enough that I wouldn't have to drive a dumpster around. I have no plans to buy a CT but I do think a rental extender pack is a solid idea.
