Just when I think I'm out.....

V2G/H is huge for me up in Western Maine. But....still won't be able to pull the trigger without seeing the Service model in action, or having a Service Center put in Portland, ME.

I got rid of the Tesla about as fast as humanly possible after it left me stranded the weekend before last.

BUT, now I have a more dependable vehicle to sit back, wait, and see how this plays out.

Well why has nobody asked if all Rivians are going to be 2022 models? or will there be a model change in three to four months!
I've been asking this for a year now.

I'm really not a fan of them trying to geofence or control the tank turn. Seems like the logical option would just be to have a torque limit on the motors so you can't break things. Tank turn really seems like a feature that is rare to be needed but when you need it you really need it.

My old S10 would get sideways in a hurry when it was just a little bit wet. And driving on ice/snow was nearly impossible.
Drift mode was a standard feature on ice and water in my ‘96 Ford Ranger.
Shit you not, I was out in the forest with a company 2WD Dakota once and very nearly had to get out and push the thing to get it to move on a nearly flat wet grass surface. Took a little wheel spin, but it eventually made it. Didn't take that to one of those projects again.

From the video, it seems to break away evenly when on the loose stuff. I'm not certain how cleanly it would break on pavement. If it didn't, it could throw one side farther out than anticipated and hit something or someone. As I mentioned before, I'm also guessing they're aware of the stress a dry-pavement T-turn could cause and they want to prevent covered damage and the cost of repairs.

In short, I don't think they ever planned or intended for it to be used on pavement.

Just my thoughts....

That's why if they just put in a torque limit I would be happy to avoid breaking the truck inadvertently. I mean current 4WD trucks you can easily abuse by making tight circles on pavement and no company is trying to control that (besides a warning on the sun visor or similar). If you try to prevent damage from idiots, nature will just make a better idiot.

I can confirm this based on my personal conversations with Brian. They have known from the beginning that this maneuver, when executed on pavement, would "break shit".

godfodder (great name, btw),

Thank you for putting this in technical technical terms that even I can understand. Brian’s style and nomenclature are similar to my Dad’s. Simple, elegant, and to the point. It leaves nothing to the imagination.

Over the last several months we have been focused on not only ramping our production rate, but also dialing in our quality across each of the five areas of our plant: stamping, body, paint, assembly and propulsion (battery and drive units). This challenging process involves multiple build phases – many of the vehicles from these non-customer build phases have been seen out testing across a range of environments during the last year. These validation, tooling tryout and pilot build vehicles are critical for our ongoing mileage accumulation program that has helped us drive refinements to the product. With all of this, I am excited to report we have started producing vehicles that reflect all of our quality iterations and design refinements. We are currently working with various governing agencies on the final approvals needed for us to make the first deliveries to preorder customers in September.”

I’m having a hard time finding the data, but if production started in September and Rivian follows the same ramp rate as the Mode S, when will I get the R1T I dropped a deposit for in September 2019? I figure I’m #14,000 or so on the reservation list. You may omit taking into account my package, paint color, and location in your math.

2012: ~3100
June to Sept:~350
Oct-Dec: ~2750

2013: 22477
Q1: +4750
Q2: ~5150
Q3 ~5700
Q4: ~6892

If Rivian gets similar numbers and combine the orders for R1S and T then ~June-July 2022
If I remember the graph, I'm 50K in number but ignoring the weird jumps, I'd be ~30K so mine may be Q1-Q2 2023. However I'm expecting Rivian to be quicker than Tesla since they have a few lines from the get go and it looks like they've been working most of the kinks already, at least I hope so :)

Don’t forget not all early preorders got the LE, either missed the window or opted to wait for other features. Really hard to say how many LEs were grapped in the week they were available.
