Who would knowingly license “vapourware”. “IMHO, “full self-driving” (level 5) will happen, but is quite a ways off, and (again IMHO) will require cars to talk to cars & “smart roads” before this is truly a reality. <\$0.02>
FSD v12 is far from vaporware. It’s a very good L2 system. L5 would be far more valuable, but that doesn’t mean L2 isn’t useful. There are only a couple of things Tesla needs to fix to get the vast majority of my drives to being intervention free. I’m guessing both of the problems get fixed in the next couple of months.

Billionaire investor Ron Baron of Baron Capital was on CNBC this morning talking about Musk/Tesla/SpaceX/AI. He's a long time big shareholder and bullish on Tesla. He says he spent several days recently at SpaceX and Tesla. He mentioned that the latest FSD is AI assisted and is working extremely well. He hinted about a big announcement coming in August that may be related to autonomous vehicles. He says TSLA and SpaceX is going to appreciate 10x or 20x over the next ten years as it's AI becomes the center of all of its products. It's an interesting interview even if he does get carried away self promoting during some of it.

You may disagree, but until it can direct a pop-up pothole crew working in the right lane around the corner of a blind intersection, to me it’s not “full” self-driving.

Today my just updated FSD saw a massive pothole and slowed down. It didn’t go around it as traffic was coming. Super impressive. It’s almost there. Most importantly it is improving every 2 weeks.

Yesterday, FSD dodged a tree branch that was hanging a little into my lane. It gives joggers at the side of the road space. It waits for people to cross at a crosswalk. It lines up the tires with the gap in a speed bump to make the ride better. I’m guessing it could handle that pothole crew as well as I would.

I agree with Ron on overall thesis. I have been accumulating Tesla stocks over the last week, and boy, I am glad I didn’t listen to these ”haters” from this forum. Autonomous driving is the next logical application of AI, and you want to grab onto the coattail of the industry Leader as long as you can or until someone else emerges. We are at the cusp of AI revolution, and someone will make tons of money. But I doubt many from this forum will ?

Just drove home without any intervention with updated,V12.3.4 , again is better than the earlier version. The way Tesla is sending out upgraded FSD every 2 weeks, I can picture how mature FSD will be in a year or so. Wonder if Ford will be first OEM to license FSD? Then flood gates will open. Rivian, please get the licensing done before any OEM does. After all, an EV maker needs to be known as a technology company, or you will follow the path of Nokia.
Licensing technology does not make a company a technology company, it makes them a product company.

I agree with him as well, longer term. I'm just not convinced that the pain is over regarding TSLA price over the next six to 12 months. I would not be surprised if it drops under 150 again soon. I like the company, the CEO .... another story.

Cameras only are the cheaper option and there are probably more cars delivered this past week with camera based FSD than all cars ever made in history with lidar. If those giant lidars I see on the waymo are required, then I can't see ever getting enough autonomous cars on the road to have any real impact on safety. Just way too expensive. I think we can now say vision only systems work (even if not the best). I think the target should be getting as many cars on the road ASAP that are better at driving than humans vs the absolute perfect tech in a few cars. I can confidently say my model Y with FSD drives better than most people I see on the road.
Cameras are still cheaper but your perception of Lidar is quite out of date.

Take anything and everything Tesla and Musk say with a massive boulder of salt.

TLDR: Man who makes money when a stock goes up promotes said stock as a good buy.

My experience with FSD. Highway splits into two different highways (in a Y shape). Car starts going down the right path, gets confused, starts violently switching back and forth between lanes before disengaging while heading straight towards the barrier dividing the two roads. Happens every time at this location.

Its a LONG ways away from anything without a driver which is why the robotaxi announcement is nothing more than stock manipulation for dumb people who are easily conned.
