Thanks for sharing, that is a good site to visualize tire comparisons. I've spent entirely too much time thinking about tires for the R1T. I definitely think the 21" is not a great option unless someone is thinking of replacing the entire package as there are very few manufactures that make a 21". So for the life of the truck, you may always be getting new stock Perilli's. The 20" in some reviews I've found is really a "hybrid" and not a true off-road tire, but has some very good reviews. I was looking as a comparison to see what other manufactures have as stock tires. The new F-150 Hybrid in the Limited trim comes with a 275/50/22 and weights ~5,500 lbs. So pretty heavy for a 1/2 ton with the same size 22".

TO answer your question literally, you do not need a membership to enter Sams club and use the restroom. Also you do not need a membership to buy beer at Sams in NY and most other states due to a quirk in alcohol sales laws, also they never ask for your membership card at the cafe in my experience so you will likely be able to get a giant fountain drink and hot dog while your charging up. Might as well just buy the year supply of toilet paper and get the membership since your there

If there are inserts out there for the 20's, I hope someone can show those pictures. Again, I seem to recall the 21" wheels will be the only ones with aero inserts available.

These numbers are cementing my choice of the 22s: best range without the hassle of a one off size – which will be a real short term issue for the drivers here who will want/need dedicated winter tires.

For the Nokian fanboys here (like me), I reached out to their CS a few weeks ago to ask if they would make their new EV dedicated LRR “silentdrive” Hakkapeliitta 10 EV in the 3 Rivian sizes… For what its worth, here is their answer:

Considering the range hits from tire type (I know.. theres more than just patch friction), I hope someone…beit Pirelli or Nokian, will make LRR winters for the R1’s.

If customer support stated the wheels won't have aero inserts, I wonder if that means Rivian figured out it doesn't make a significant impact on range.

Are you asking how replacing 21s is going to be an awful experience? I think the general consensus from most who have been following Rivian for a while is that the 21s are an odd size that won't be in stock at your local retailer like Discount Tire... (and may never be kept in stock unless other manufacturers start to adopt that size) If on a road trip and you have a tire problem it's going to be much easier getting a 20 replacement, where as you might be stuck for days waiting on a 21...

With a full size spare on the R1T this won't be as critical but with the space saver on the R1S it could end up being a really big deal.

Now if you are just going in for a regular replacement and have time to place an order with your tire shop of choice then it probably won't be a big deal. But (at least for the time being) going in and getting 21s on the same day is almost certainly not going to happen.

Chevy volt EPA is 53, and I consistently have gotten about 70 miles because of my driving style (heavy use of regen paddle, steady acceleration).

I have 20s on my configuration.
I kept looking at my R1T pic with 21s and it just doesn't look as nice. Plus the 20s are free with the LE. Hopefully we can see the R1T with both options before ordering. If charging infrastructure is great for long trips, then 20s should be great.

After driving a midnight run 1,000ish mile trip from LA to Portland in a “230 mile range” Model S, this mileage will be great.
Charging stops on a long trip add an annoying percentage of time.

I can also personally attest to what a pain it is to stop and charge. With my 2017 Chevy BoltEV, I went on a trip to Ft. Myers Florida about 3 years ago to play in a senior baseball tournament, and had to travel down the east coast of Florida to be able to find enough fast chargers to even make the trip. With fastest rate of 55 kW charging, time factor of charging was significant. I did it just to see if I could do it, but it took WAY longer than it would have taken in an ICE vehicle. Now with the R1T, charging rates are much faster, and more higher energy fast chargers are now available and increasing, and the range is greater, so will be much better.

With the reported 10-15% range reduction of the 20" AT wheels, I am going to switch my configuration back to the 21" road wheels, and expect to do better than the 314 mile range, as I am a seasoned EV driver, and know how to maximize range. Also, do not plan on off-roading, but if I change my mind, I will look for aftermarket 20 inch AT tires, hoping to find something less expensive than Rivian's $800 per tire/wheel combination, hoping it will be possible. If worse comes to worse, and Rivian will void warranty by using aftermarket wheels, will just have to bite the bullet and get additional Rivian 20" AT wheels directly from Rivian (5 x $800 = $4,000 ouch, a lot of money for an off-road adventure!). An alternative choice for a mostly road warrior, would be to get the LE free upgrade to the 20" AT wheels, and purchase a spare for $800, and also a set of 5 of the 21" road tires for $600 each, or $3,000. Would be nice to know if Rivian would sell the tire pressure monitoring sensors to go in other 20" aftermarket wheels, and how much that might cost. Someone with a lot more experience with aftermarket tires and wheels will eventually weigh in here, especially after deliveries actually begin...s00n.

Generally when the EPA tests a vehicle, they test the standard mode, which in the R1T's case would be 4 motor drive. I bet you'll see a lot more range from 2WD.

I wouldn't say a lot, because now the other two motors that are off become dead weight, but hopefully the efficiency of the two motors that are in use can overcome most of that

When do we get an auxiliary battery as part of the adventure gear that slides into the gear tunnel and gives +50% range?

Auxiliary batteries aren't coming. The combination of weight & cost, necessary to get even 50-60 extra miles makes it prohibitive. Remember the added battery must have it's own seperate BMS, charging, heating/ cooling system which is inefficient since your now carrying two systems, or it must piggy back onto what is built in to the host vehicle which has many technical hurdles and both solutions are more expensive than just buying the biggest stock battery available. Also built in solar charging is not viable.
I'm going with the large pack because #1 the max pack would strain my budget and #2 If I'm traveling on long road trips I will either fly and rent a car if I'm in a hurry or spend a few extra 30 minute stops and enjoy the adventure. This will be my first full BEV so my plan is probably full of holes.

Of the All Season's, it says they are designed for "light snow" but make no mention of a rating or symbol on the sidewall. I'd be pretty certain that either would be better than the 22's in Winter weather.

Both the 21 and 22 are M+S. The 20s are 3-peak.

I've never researched a vehicle with this level of detail before, so almost everything is stuff I hadn't considered prior to reserving the R1S... but if range is one's biggest concern (and for me it's NOT), would getting the 20" wheels and replacing the AT tires with road/street/whatever tires ultimately be better than the 21" wheels regardless of tire type?

Make a pro/cons list. For me the decrease in range is disappointing if not surprising. Yet the benefits of the 20s everywhere else out way the reduction in range for me
