Been a reservation holder since before the IPO, life has gotten in the way, but I've gotten a VIN assigned finally...

1.) Which is the recommended Tesla->J1772 (AC) adapter?
2.) How much range does the spare cost? (Note I'm also getting the roof rack)
3.) My previous two cars (both Teslas) had various amounts of Xpel on them - I'm leaning to the "a truck is a truck" - but would be open to SPECIFIC areas (front? near the bed?) if there are recommendations?
4.) Thinking of going with SnapPlate mount for the front license place

I did download a delivery checklist a while ago, any other "must have options"?

PS: Pickup is in Chelsea, MA

Hi - I'm scheduled for pickup 5/20 out of Mahwah, and there are so many checklists out there it's hard to consolidate. Care to share yours?

1) Lectron : cheap (works fine) 80a AtoZ : backup in case
2) A 50ish lb spare is irrelevant on range on a multi ton truck. More relevant : which tire did you choose?
3) The tall front , and the vertical windshield, have a “please hit me right here” label, dead center
4) SnapPlate 2.0 for the win
P.S. That’s my truck!

I chose the 21" road tires.

@joesmith315 I will find the link a bit later, on the run...

RE: Checklists

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There is nothing you can find during a walkaround that matters. Anything you can see is something that can be fixed by the service center at a later date. Anything wrong internally is going to take some driving and some time to show up.
Do you really think they are going to refuse to fix something if you didn't point it out upon delivery?

Why bother nitpicking things like panel gaps? Drive it home, live with it, keep a list of things that need to be corrected (if any) then schedule a service center visit for when you have free time to get them all fixed.

Do you really intend to reject the vehicle at pickup if it's not "perfect"? If you go in with that attitude, you WILL find something wrong, and you WILL be dissatisfied.

My advice: Check the vehicle like you would a rental car. Make sure all the removable parts are there (portable charger, air compressor hoses, etc.). Make sure there are no cracks in the windshield or roof, do a quick walk around for dents (or just film a walkaround in HD so you can go back later and prove the dent was there at pickup if you're worried about it).

Instead of a detailed inspection and crawling underneath the vehicle, spend the time having the delivery specialist help you set things up and answer your questions. In my case, I had read the manual etc. ahead of time so I had no questions. I just wanted to get my vehicle and start driving to get to know it. The few cosmetic things I found over the next few months were quickly and efficiently fixed at the service center where I left it for a week while I was out of town.

Another “re: checklists”

I think this stems from policy Tesla supposedly has where if you don’t flag certain things like panel gaps at pickup then Tesla won’t fix them (or at least won’t fix them for free) and so began this obsession with flagging every possible flaw with panel gaps, etc. which eventually translated to Rivian.

however, they’ve shown they are willing to fix such issues regardless whether the owner reports or documents them at pickup.

I wouldn’t waste my time with forcing the guide to wait while you go through the whole thing - drive your car home, enjoy it, and when you find issues go ahead and schedule a service visit. But to each their own….

I do agree that it's about having a balance and being reasonable: not everything is goong to be micron-perfect and you'll drive yourself crazy looking at minute details. Our delivery guide actually told us to come earlier than the scheduled time so we can inspect the car first, so that was nice.

Alternate option to the Snap Plate, we have a tow hook plate mount on our R1T. It's been on the truck since 2022 and we haven't had any issues.

We did front half XPEL PPF (through a detailer, not Rivian). We did a factory delivery and on the 700mi drive from Illinois back to DC we had a few small rock chips on the front. It's a big flat surface. We also added XPEL PPF to the door sills on all four doors and at the top of the tailgate. We have been thankful for all of this coverage.

We keep a Lectron adaptor in the frunk.

As well as a set of jack pucks.

Very prudent advice, thanks. I'm about 2 hours from the service center, but he last 1/2 hour or so is always completely stopped traffic. Just trying to avoid needless trips there.

Let's hope Rivian doesn't mimic Tesla in this regard if they get desperate for cash.

I picked up a model s during a down quarter for Tesla, drove it home, and put in requests. They denied to fix almost all of them. Luckily, I was able to sell it for more than I paid thanks to the crazy market.

Lesson learned.
