That's awful! How did you miss all that at the time of delivery? I'm not sure what would happen if a customer said "this isn't what I paid for," considering that they already have your money at that point. But a vehicle that was advertised as having "ordinary wear and tear" is what you were offered and it seems not to be what you received.
I actually did try to check it out before I drove off, but was told I couldn't go look where it was parked due to it being off limits due to potential " customer Liability".

I did report it to the guide once I got home and was able to give it a once over, and they may be taking it back.(should know today).

Bummer it took me 10 hours to drive it home and now have to deal with this.

Honestly I expected usual wear and tear, but not this...

Update: Rivian is allowing me to return due to condition of the vehicle, bad news is I have to drive it 3.5 hrs to drop off. Still pending answer on 1000 deposit since this vehicle clearly has more use than "ordinary wear and tear".

Hope this helpful for those taking delivery or considering demo units.....

Just grabbed an R1S from the website! Does anyone know what's the latest status on shipping of the demos? I picked one in FL but i'm in CA...
@momo3605, I reserved a demo R1T in Michigan but later switched to one in Maryland. The Guide was gracious and made the switch easy. I think that switch might have happened before the $1,000 became nonrefundable.

Rivian wants you to buy a vehicle, and they want you to be happy with the purchase. "Which vehicle" shouldn't matter much to them, as long as they haven't done an unreasonable amount of effort and as long as you haven't made the first vehicle any less salable.

***

That being said, I don't see any unsold R1S in the Demo store today. If Rivian doesn't have a nearby vehicle to offer you, it may be difficult for them to satisfy you with a swap.

What would happen if you took delivery in Florida, drove it far enough to know you like it, and had it shipped privately from, say, Atlanta to somewhere near your home?

***

Very best wishes! Enjoy your Rivian!

Anyone take delivery of a “Demo” that was listed as “New” and under 100 miles yet? If so, did you ask in advance the history of it, and if so, did they provide to you?

I have an S and a T from Demo I “reserved” Friday and Sunday…heard nothing so far and I have asked these questions cause both were listed as “New”.

No live pics on either of those listings either and my guess is because they were so new to the site…but can’t confirm.

I also asked if they would swap the 22 bright for 20 AT….not sure if they will.

Interested in hearing others experiences.

Thanks.

Has there been any R1S added ? How are yall so lucky to snag those? I never see any in stock
I reserved an S LE on Friday. It was on the site at 10pm. I think they update really late in the day as I have seen all “available” count increases around this time. This is EST.

Could be wrong, but that’s when I looked and there were 3.

I'm pretty sure they will _not_. I discussed something similar with a Guide. The reason is silly, but I believe it: since none of these is current model-year, info on them was recorded with the EPA in their manufacture year and those records are now closed. Since the "fuel" efficiency of each vehicle depends on the wheel/tire attached to it, changing these before sale would mean that what was sold is different from what was reported to the EPA, which is a big no-no. I'm not going to defend it--merely reporting what a more or less reliable (official) source explained to me.

If they _do_ let you do the swap, please let us know!

Good luck!

Interesting…yet you hear of “free” swaps all the time. When is the information reported to the EPA? Sort of seems like an odd reason/excuse as they will gladly sell you and then reprogram the computer. Will let you know what they say if I ever hear from anyone. I’m in no rush, but curious how long it will take.

My understanding is that the snag is that the vehicle is from a previous model year. Also, many swaps don't affect fuel economy.

My Guide was very apologetic and also did seem to have his duckies in a row. But that doesn't mean that his info was correct. Ironically, I was trying to swap 21" tires for the 20" all-terrain that were on the 2023 R1T I was looking at--so the fuel economy would have gone _up_. But it was a no-go. (Note: they wouldn't have had a problem with me buying a set of 21" and just throwing the 20" tires in the trash. So long as the vehicle that they deliver to me matches what they reported to EPA, what happens next isn't their problem.) I look forward to learning how your experience plays out!

First Post on the Rivian Forums.
I drive a Gladiator Rubicon and the R1T seemed like the next logical step in my vehicle journey. I looked at the Ford Lightning, but didn't like the size around town (Dallas).
I used the Demo site to grab a LA Sliver R1T on Tuesday, and as of now, I am done minus taking to the delivery Guide. The trade offer was several K more than the other sites like CarGurus or CarMax. me=surprised
Looks like I will be road tripping from Phoenix do Dallas in the near future.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences. By reading all 16 pages of this forum thread it made the process much easier and primed me for the right questions to ask.
More to come as I get a pickup date. -Cheers

I have an appointment for Tuesday at noon in Phoenix. I will start driving tomorrow......... er........ I think. All the paperwork is done, the portal says, Good Job! All done! But last night my Guide called and said that "your trade was not 100%". This seems implausible given the paperwork and photos. No one has called or messaged for any additional information.
In a bit of limbo. Getting a call or text back on this is not coming fast enough in my opinion.
What's a good movie without some plot tension.
Not sure who to call to chase this as my Guide is not responding.

Scheduling a test drive is the quickest access to a live human being. The test drive guides are eager to make a sale, so they will likely expedite your issue.

Guide has responded that she does NOT think the trade is 100% and will see what she can do. Now I wait.

Yes, DFW.

Got it, thanks. I have a brand new black roof sunshade to test and you can keep it at no cost if you like it.
