So, I'm looking at the price of the OEM stock Pirelli AT Scorpion Tires 275/65/20 116H and they are $ 461.00 per tire. This is the specific EV version that came on the truck. Although, Pirelli also has a AT 275/65/20 126S version that Amazon has for sale for only $ 276.00 per tire. BOTH versions carry a 50k mile warranty.

Has anyone tried the non-EV version of the Pirelli AT Scorpions? It's almost an $ 800 difference, so it's worth asking questions. I'm assuming they might ride a little rougher, but for $ 800 difference, how bad is it??

Links above for both tires, not sure if it is allowed though. Sorry if it is not allowed to post links.

That might worth the deal. The load rating is higher than the Rivian specific tire, but the speed rating is lower. However, the speed rating is 112mph vs 130mph for the stock ones but that is still higher than the 111mph governor. An installation shop may not like it, but the sounds safe to me

I've seen that difference as well on Tire Rack. Besides the higher load rating as a difference, the Rivian Specced tire may also have some foam or other sound deadening material in it to reduce noise.

When I bought the truck I went with the 20" wheel size as I didn't like the fact that there was only one tire in the 21" size available when it comes time for new tires. Choosing a new tire to replace these noisy 20ATs will be a conundrum for me to say the least. Hopefully by the time another 15k or so miles rolls off the clock, there will be a descent alternative that I like that'll meet my needs.

Would not recommend that, would likely drop your range down by ~45 miles (289 vs ~244).

Would recommend the Firestone Destination XT instead...range would likely drop to 270 miles or so...

I went with a 33" tire (CV 4S ~$250) and saw range go up ~5% or so...

The tire might weigh a little more but the tread pattern is mostly the same so it WILL NOT be 20% less efficient. That is larger than the difference between the 20" and 21" OEM tires

Also with the higher ply sidewalls you are less likely to have a flat and higher top pressure you might be able to eek out any difference in efficiency by running higher pressure

@onthebrake - I run the LT version of Nitro Recon Grapplers and I didn't lose any efficiency compared to the OEM 20s. I should also add if you do any off-roading or heavy hauling/towing I would actually recommend LT tires over any of the OEM options.

But what’s the price of those Firestone tires? Did your range really go up or is your Speedo off now and you think your getting better range?

I was told by a Rivian tech that the issue with the non-EV version is that there is a difference in how the plys of the tire are manufactured and assembled. The EV version is beefier to prevent the separation of the plys, which could cause a catastrophic blowout.

Thanks for that. Although most people I see on these sites are not running the stock Pirellis. Those are the only ev tires available for the 20” wheels. I haven’t heard of any failures yet, plus the 10 ply LT tire is much beefier that that EV tire so I’m not 100% sure about that.

Probably has to do with some kind of liability. I can't confirm what the Rivian tech told me is a fact; it's just what I was told when I asked him about tire options since my OEM Pirelli's had started to make a lot of noise after 6,000 miles.

I'm currently running the 126S version as replacement to the OEMs. I have a couple thousand miles on them.

I can definitely say they are much less noisy than the worn OEMs, but can't compare new to new (new OEMs were over 30k miles ago).

I have not noticed a range difference but I am running a higher pressure. I've also not noticed a difference in handling.

I just decided that the load and speed rating are not being violated, so the tires should handle what I throw at them.

Discount Tire happily installed them, and I'm happy with them so far.

Ok, I ordered them. What pressures are you running? Looks like they go 80 psi max.

In an ideal world you would want to run a chalk test to determine your pressure to avoid uneven tire wear.

I run mine Nitto Recon Grapplers at 60-65psi. I think @Mark_AZR1T has done some testing at different pressures.
