It is different. I believe gen 2 has 4” less. Approach and departure angles are slightly different too.

Austin has Gen 2 available for Demo drive.

I’ll post up my full impression later once I’m back home from my Austin road trip.


Suspension feels much more refined and improves the overall driving experience.

The ride is extremely nice even on 22” sport wheels. It reminds me of how nice the ride is with 20” all terrains on Gen 1.

In my opinion, 20” AT is perfect for Gen 1. 22” with Gen 1 can be a rough ride. On Gen 2, 22” Sport wheels ride is very comfortable even on firm setting.

Regen is reduced but in a good way. No more passengers head bobbing even if you suck at one pedal driving.

Consumer ratings will be much happier with this change.

It will be much easier to get use to driving an EV.

I hope we see some of this improved driving dynamics with the next software update.

Other the color and design choices what material quality upgrades are there in the Ascent vs Adventure? Is there more soft touch material etc?

The materials seemed nicer, softer and more plush. I think the lower plastics were upgraded. The seats are much nicer. I like the Gen 1 interiors fine, but the new trims are definitely a level up.

I guess it depends. The upgrade cost is huge. I've only noticed ride quality in my R1S on I5 South of Seattle, no issues anywhere else but maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I think best case I can sell my Quad R1S Adv for around 20k below the price of a Dual Large Gen2 minus it's options. I'm not rock crawling and the extra range would be nice but it still seems like a questionable upgrade value even if they did some nice updates.

I think the Gen 2 is a nice upgrade, but I don’t think it’s $20k nicer. The Gen 1s are still awesome.

Does anyone have pictures of the pedals in both gen2 trims? - wondering if they have been “munro’d”.

Hopefully can get the regen back to gen1 levels in a future ota, though I’m likely to wait for gen3 one of our favorite things about our rivians is that we almost *never* touch the brake at all.

Why is the door closing so important to me? I love the way the MB Gwagon doors close. I like the way the R1 doors feel a bit heavy too. Would be a shame if that was lighter on the G2R1. Probably not a major deal to most but for some odd reason is for me.

i believe the non Ascent trims are the same as before.

That's awesome! ? This is exactly what I needed to hear. The improved ride quality is a game-changer for me, making it the sole reason for my last-minute pivot from a QM deal to Gen 2.

I'm leaning towards the Tri-Motor Ascend with this exact color and Slate Sky interior, though I'm still debating between that and Storm Blue. Anyway, I'm glad to hear your ride experience with Gen 2 was a positive one! I'll keep an eye out for your full impressions. ?

Anyone blow the horn yet?

I tried on the display model but it was disabled and forgot to try it during my demo drive.

Hopefully someone will test it to see if a second horn has returned or a louder horn is being used now.
