I agree with what you said and would add that the rear vent level (feet or above rear screen) should be saved as well. When you have the vent blowing at the feet in my r1t in the rear, the front seat cooling works much much better
THIS! It’s like a secret hack to a cooler bottom.

I still don’t have any update…I also have no access to WiFi wonder if that’s a reason?

It is not (unless you also don't have LTE). Thew reason is that it is, just like all other Rivian releases, a rolling update. I can take a week or two for everyone to get it.

Am I the only one disappointed in the blind spot camera? Now I understand why they said "Nah... Gen1 won't get it" off the bat.

1. It's very blurry
2. It's very misaligned

It performs the function intended. I used it over the last road trip and it worked very well.

Do I plan to take the files, blow them up, and sell as art.....no.....but for me....that slight block in corner and the resolution are not impactful for the purpose they serve.

For people that feel it is better without....they allow them to be turned off.

Jeeze, tough crowd! I'm not lobbying to replace RJ over a couple cameras, I just thought I'd share pictures of it and my initial reaction.

Rivian R1T R1S 2024.19.04 software update now installing! Share your impressions & reviews 1000011454

Stupid question: are the lense covers plastic or glass? Unfortunately I wiped them early on with a hydrophobic spray (can't remember which one now) and that was a terrible mistake, it immediately ruined the finish and camera quality.

@Dark-Fx what do you suggest for cleaning or refreshing?

Finally got the update last night and I guess it’s fine? The previewed changes I’m most excited about aren’t included (casting, Apple Music, launch for gen 1 quad, and interior lighting) so this update doesn’t feel as substantial as I’d hoped. I have an R1T and can’t really tell the difference with the suspension, but I know that changes were more critical for the R1S.

The turn signal cameras aren’t as useful as I expected, but maybe I just need to get used to them. It seems odd to look down at a tiny image in the driver display instead of just using mirrors and looking over my shoulder. I’m not sure why people were clamoring for this.

Also, I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but the changes to the driver’s display are a step backward in my opinion. The map looks terrible with the hard border around it and I don’t like the power gauge changes. Poor color choice and it seems more vague.

Gotcha! The last update was seamless and also over WiFi. For the summer I don’t have that but I do have strong LTE so I will wait.

Fairly certain it's just uncoated glass, so a normal glass cleaner and microfiber to avoid scratching. I'd probably consider using a lens pen if it's still hazy afterwards, but with the caveat that I have not personally gone this far with mine.

Failed to update multiple times now. Service is looking into it. They already pushed the update, but to no avail.
Anyone else running into this?

The update is as planned, never was going to include those other features which will be out in the next month or so for Connect+. It was substantive given that OTAs are by their nature iterative.

I mean…you aren’t telling me anything I don’t already know but as a big update that both came later than the usual cadence AND the first update after all of the announced changes, it’s still a fairly limited update. There isn’t much here for me to get excited about.

After 2 hours of driving:

Like:
  1. Turn signal cameras - great for the purpose in showing blind spot. They don't need to be crystal clear to be effective.
  2. Everything feels larger, and that is good.
  3. Yellow blind spot indicator in driver display is much more pronounced and observable in the peripheral.
  4. Low regen.
  5. Seat heat/cool controls.
  6. Cell shaded aesthetic.

Meh:
  1. Adventure font - The reason behind it was probably to avoid expensive licensing, but my opinion as a designer is a font like 'DIN' would have been more appropriate aesthetically. It looks good on the driver display, but in other places where they use less less font weight it looks cheap.

Do not like:
  1. New suspension tuning on SOFT. They've gone too far on the compression dampening. Feels closer to BMW suspension tuning now - I understand why they did it, and I think most will like it - but I don't prefer this on a truck.
Agreed with all your Like observation. Great with camera view for blind spot. Now I can see if there is bicycle rider in my sight while turning. I am sure it will be great help while towing. It will be nice to turn on this camera view without turning on turn signal.

It does matter now, priority downloads are going to WiFi connected vehicles, according to RivianTrackr

Thank you for the cogent and well informed reply. I figured something is up since I don’t have WIFi for the summer.

I finally got the notice on my app last night, and as this is my first time updating the vehicle, I did not know what to expect. I hit update and it stuck at "preparing" and 0% for about 15 minutes. I thought oh no. A quick Reddit search showed thats normal. And then.. 7%! It completed in about 48 minutes, exactly as advertised. I was a little nervous as my vehicle is set to charge at home starting at 9pm (to hit the off peak rates) and I started the update at 805pm. No worries, it completed in time and five minutes later the vehicle started charging as scheduled.

Impressions.

1) I use standard height and soft setting in All Purpose. The ride update feels like they used more aggressive damper settings. They can tune both the air springs and the fancy MacLaren hydraulic suspension and I think this time they opted for a slightly higher rebound tune with the hydraulics. I can't say it is a dramatic change in ride comfort, but it does feel a little more buttoned down with the more aggressive rebound. As another user posted, they tuned it to be a BMW type of ride - it isn't harsh but it feels aggressive, a little more sporty even. I came from a Mercedes GLS which had a pillow soft magic carpet ride, and even with this update, it is not that type of ride. And that's ok, because having a "BMW ride" is more fitting for this vehicle.

2) I am not sure why people are complaining about the lane change cameras. They are just fine. Before this we had nothing. So I am thrilled we have something now and the quality is perfectly fine for lane changes. I prefer it being in the driver console instead of the middle screen, less distracting.

3) I like the new bold font. Easy to read. And if it saves Rivian a few licensing dollars with the font, that's great.

4) The new yellow animation for the "gauges" is fine. It is much more subtle and a little more difficult to read but it is not distracting nor is it invisible.

5) Might be my imagination but regen seems smoother - I use Standard and it has less of a head toss when lifting off the accelerator. It might be a different throttle tuning too. But it does feel more smoothly blended.

Thank you Rivian for the constant improvement to our vehicles!
