Has anyone lost power to their home while charging their vehicle? I would imagine this is something Rivian and other EV manufacturers have tested. Anyone with real life experience?

Not (yet) with the Rivian, but it happened at least twice with my wife's Tesla. Looking at the logs, once the power came back, the charger/contactor waited for a few mins until it clicked back in and continued the charge.

On one occasion, the power came back after 0hrs of the next day, and the Charge didn't restart as the car schedule was set to "Start the charge at 10pm" (Old Tesla Software). With Rivian's Schedule this wouldn't be a problem for me as I have it as "Charge between 8pm and 6am" so as long as the power comes back before 6am, it should restart the charge :)

Hope this helps!

I do but I’m to chicken shit to try it. ?
LOL! I would be too. Back in the 80's an internal IT auditor where I worked walked into one of our plant's computer rooms and asked how their disaster recovery plan was. Upon hearing that "It's good - we're solid" he walked over to the breaker and pulled the handle down! It was a IBM System-38 and they were down for over a week! As you said in your initial post, I'm sure it's been tested by the manufacturers, but I don't need to replicate that test.

Yeah, the truck throws a "charging station error" message, and unlocks the port so you can unplug.

When power returns, it starts charging again.

I can try it for you tonight and let you know. I'll do it in a bit ;-)

EDIT: Just performed the test... I'm uploading the video as I type :)

Loved it!
I'm an IT Veteran already and on my Consulting Days (With a planned Maintenance Window, of course!) I used to test DR scenarios precisely by causing a "D" :) I wrote down in tickets "Main breaker will be pulled within the time window with no warning to the operators" :)

Everybody hated me, I should said, but real-world results were achieved.

OK, this is what will happen when facing a power outage while charging your Rivian:

TL;DR: It will re-start your charging session after a few minutes. ?

PS: Enjoy my crappy Argentinian accent on the video :p

Thank you very much for conducting this test.

Can I send you my Telsa Wall Connector with my Teslatap mini adapter to retest? ?

I have some comfort now and won’t be as chicken shit when an outage occurs while charging. :like:

I have a tesla wall connector and an adapter but it's a different brand (it's a very generic one actually), I can test that for you now as well. :)

Yeah, I remember when my flight instructor did basically the same thing in a Cessna 150 at 5,000 feet. Just cut the engine and said (deadpan) "oh, no! Engine failure! What do you do?" Talk about a hard reboot!

Yeah, I remember when my flight instructor did basically the same thing in a Cessna 150 at 5,000 feet. Just cut the engine and said (deadpan) "oh, no! Engine failure! What do you do?" Talk about a hard reboot!
During Helicopter training my flight instructor would perform sudden "throttle chops" which rolled the engine to idle speed in flight causing an instant auto-rotation condition where you had just 2-3 seconds to lower the collective (the flight control in a helicopter that resembles the old hand brake handle in a car) to lower the main rotor pitch or the main rotor would under speed then stall causing you to suddenly fall out of the sky and die.
Later as a CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) I had to preform throttle chops with my students too. It was a very nerve wracking test because if your student didn't react fast enough (2-3 seconds max in a Robinson R22 which had no rotor weights) you would crash, no way out of that. I didn't perform many of those with my students, only what was required by the FAA training guidelines.

We also used to pull the breaker (they were perfectly situated directly under the instructors seat) for the engine gauges to scare the students into scanning the gauges every 60 sec or so. "You know you've been flying for 5 min with 0 PSI oil pressure right?" while we were over the middle of the L.I. Sound at 10,000ft ?
