Looks like Lucid deliveries start this Saturday. They're having a big event, live streaming, and also letting the lucky recipients go wild with their new cars:

Upon receipt of their cars, these initial customers will embark upon the inaugural Lucid Rally, hosted by members of the company’s leadership team on a route that showcases the vehicle’s standout ride, handling, and performance capabilities, before departing in their personally-configured Lucid Air Dream Edition

Not trying to be a big downer here, but Rivian could learn something from this. Lucid is generating excitement, making a big deal out of deliveries, and letting the new owners have some fun.

I really like how they are approaching it. It's not some covert event that we hear about on social media, it's a public event. Rivian can learn a lot from it.

What a unique idea......customer first! How dare they.?

Their customer is Amazon. We’re just an annoying bunch.

Lucid always seemed a little sketchy to me but at the same time they've seemingly been more communicative and transparent than Rivian, so maybe it's really Rivian that is the sketchier of the two. I mean, it's been like half a year since RJ recognized that they were failing to be transparent and even now, supposedly a month after the truck has been released, we're still combing through social media and financial filings to get information. And customer service will still give you TBDs about features/properties! That poor guy that already had a guide and was finalizing his order couldn't get his guide to give him a vehicle payload so that he could know if the truck would support his trailer so he had to get a friend of a friend of a friend to sneakily take a picture of the door sticker.

This is why, in my mind, insider-only deliveries just don't count. Hopefully when it's in the hands of outsiders Rivian will no longer pretend that their homework wasn't due a month ago. Pencils down Rivian!

The experience as a preorder holder with Lucid has been 1000x better than with Rivian for the simple fact that we’ve been kept informed along the way. I’m still super excited for the R1S, but wish they’d take a page from Lucid‘s customer communications playbook.

Yeah, it would be nice if Rivian hosted some type of curated driving experience for customers that showcased the capabilities of the vehicles.......Perhaps they could call them First Mile or something catchy like that.

I get the point, but at the same time I'd expect nothing less spending $170k on a vehicle (similar to buying a 911 and getting to go to Germany to see it and drive it on the track). They are only producing 520 of them as well, so much easier to manage something like this.

That being said, the idea in general is worth considering for Rivian though for when they make more bulk deliveries to non-employees. They could arrange for get togethers in each local market where they deliver a few dozen all at once. I'd also mention that their membership is meant to do things like this on an ongoing basis rather than just a one-time PR thing.

That's all I've ever asked for from Rivian, but it seems to fall on deaf ears.
