Took delivery of our R1S Tri today and noticed the speed assist option is missing from the Driver+. I also confirmed that their demo Tri has it missing with the latest update. When I did the demo is was on the previous update and had all the speed assist options. I spoke with Rivian support and they confirmed there was a bug and that it was removed from the latest update.

It's probably not called speed assist but in the previous update the drive assist section of the settings had an option under adaptive cruise control to set at your current speed or the actual speed limit. If you chose the actual speed limit it would change speed based upon the highway signs. There was also an option for a negative or positive offset. So if you set the offset to +5 for example it would have you going 80mph when the speed limit was 75mph. When the speed drops to 65mph coming into a town it would automatically set you at 70mph. The cameras pick up the speed limit signs. Not sure if the NAV data plays any part.

It worked really well during my extend demo drive. Even if you don't speed it would allow you to compensate for the +2 mph that the R1S shows with 22" wheels vs GPS speed.

Oh. I never tried using that, but it sounds neat.

Works great on the Rivian. It was dangerous on my Lightning until the latest update. The Lightning allowed it on secondary highways and it would pick up the speeds of Interstates when you crossed one under a bridge/exit ramp. So you could have adaptive set at 45mph and it would aggressively speed you to the speed limit or much faster depending on offset.

I could imagine driving along at 45 and thinking the new speed limit is 70, being pretty shocking.

Yeah and the Lightning doesn't taper the speed increase. It's balls to the wall. The Rivian speed increase is smooth. Ford's software pales in comparison to Rivian.

That doesn’t surprise me. The last Ford product I had was a 2020 explorer ST and I had it less than 6 months before trading it in as the software was unusable.

Guess this is a Gen2 only thing? Never had such an option on my Gen1. :-( That seems pretty trivial to give us.

Is that Gen 2 only? I’ve got a Gen 1 and have never had it change speed per speed limit signs. And I looked for that because my Audi has that and I use it there all the time.

I like Tesla's speeding notification feature... when you are over a preset speed limit, the car gives you a "ding~~~"
