On my Android device running the Rivian mobile app (v2.20.0), I keep getting system warnings that the app is draining my battery via Bluetooth. When I try to force stop the app, it restarts itself within 3–5 seconds—feels like it might be running on a cron job or similar background trigger.

Even when I set its battery usage to Restricted, the app reverts the setting back to Unrestricted as soon as it restarts. This seems like the app is overriding user preferences, which really shouldn't happen.

I get that Rivian wants the phone key experience to be seamless, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of my phone’s battery life. Is anyone else seeing this behavior? And does anyone know how to get in touch with the Rivian dev team or support to report this?

Thanks

That is just a boiler plate alert, and doesn't mean it's using excess power, only that it has Bluetooth on, which it uses for the key. Any app with continuous Bluetooth access/control will give this alert.

As far as the Restricted escalation, MANY Android apps do this same thing, notably the Alexa app for me.

As far as feedback, there is a dedicated feedback button in the app itself.

In my case the phone battery is draining. I have been doing some testing by uninstalling the app and seeing how long it takes to get to 50% battery. with the app installed from 100% to 50% takes on avg 6hrs and without the app it averages around 13+hrs. which is a lot of drain.

Not normal, and not my experience with 2.20.

Thanks, I have a s25 clean install. I did submit feedback as well to them on this. on the changing of the battery usage apps should not be changing modes. That is a user selected change and it should not even be looking at it. Might have to just go back to using the keycard. :)

You should be able to go into your battery settings and then click on "usage" and see what percent is attributable to the Rivian app. For example, my usage right now (since last charge is): 22% because of Chrome, 10% instagram, 5% Google and then.... way down the list it has Rivian at <1%. This is despite the Rivian app having one of the largest "background" times listed at 2:30 hours.

What does yours say?

mine says 4% right now but not a good measure since I have been killing the app on a regular basis. I am going to uninstall it again and reboot then reinstall it and watch it in the morning on another full charge. Thank you for the advice
