Sounds like you should have gotten an R1S.
Perhaps, my original pre-order was for an R1S and I did indeed go back and forth but ultimately the ability to get my Rivian 18 months earlier and pay $12000 less for it in the process made a big difference. That said, the gear tunnel was also part of the allure that made me think the T would be the better vehicle long term.

But again, the point here isn't to say that I'd rather have another vehicle, it's to raise what I've found through experience to be a poor design decision.

Lol.
...a legitimate critique ...
Yeah, not quite sure you understand the definition of that there, boss.

Take my statements however you wish.

Your gripes have fallen on deaf ears. I think you should make peace with whatever you want to decide. Not sure what you expected to happen coming and griping here. You think Rivian's going to read this and completely redesign the truck from the ground up with your input?

Because again, you're myopically assuming this Engineering decision was made with a singular focus. And apparently it was to spite YOU.

Wish you the best in life. I verily hope you teach your child to look on the upside, instead of constantly looking for why the world's wronged you by some arbitrary metrics, because...hell, that's a great way to have a pretty terrible time.

I'm out 🕊☮

The point was to stimulate a discussion around an observation that I've made and possibly have a thread that isn't:

  • Another shit show argument about car play
  • Another thread that turns into a political rock fight
  • Another thread complaining about what they perceived as poor customer service during delivery or a service appointment
I simply find it humourous that some people construe my simple criticism and questioning of a design choice as an attack on the entire concept of the vehicle. Every vehicle involves tradeoffs. In totality this one isn't enough to outweigh all of the things I like or I would indeed have sold it, it's just a decision that I question.

Based on this thread so many r1t owners play golf.
Which came first, golf hobby or the gear tunnel?

I hope you know I'm just ribbing you, right? My posts/reactions are mostly sarcasm.

But I will be coming back here every time I use my gear tunnel. Might need to set up an ITTT auto-post when the GT doors open.

McFly, you did stimulate a discussion. Why are you now complaining about the discussion you stimulated? Is this your first experience with social media? Do you not understand that what you stimulate may not agree with you?

If I have to buy a $1k+ accessory to take full advantage of something, then it's poorly designed.

How about $100?

And where do you store your NACS adapters? The gear tunnel door storage is an excellent place.

So yes. I disagree with you. I love the gear tunnel. Sorry I am not giving you the positive feedback you expected. Maybe keep it to yourself next time if you can't handle opinions that differ from yours.

It's all about how you use it. My BMW I4 doesn't have a frunk but it isn't missed at all because we don't use the vehicle for carry lots of stuff. The R1S though I have used my frunk numerous times for a variety of things.

The way the truck is laid out, reducing the gear tunnel size would result in no appreciable difference in back seat access. None.

It's literally ONLY using dead space that's otherwise going to waste.

In order to get more back seat access, you'd ALSO have to slide the rear window backward.
Meaning you'd also have a smaller truck bed.

At which point, you don't want a truck.

#GearTunnelMasterRace
Get rid of the gear tunnel and the tonneau storage, and the bed could be 6" longer. That's about the only useful thing you'd gain getting rid of the gear tunnel.

I have not once complained about any of the discussion. Identifying something that I find to be humorous is hardly complaining. Indeed I fully expected majority sentiment to be against my perspective. That said, please tell me more about this "social media" you speak of. Do I need any special equipment to partake?

I keep my NACS adapter in the door pocket of my driver door, where it's easily accessible for charging stops and because I don't want to look like a rube rummaging around in some bin in front of the Tesla drivers.

Cool. I use the driver door pocket for things I need in the truck while driving. I don't need an adapter while driving or for most of the time I am using the truck. So for me, using the gear tunnel door is perfect. It is easily accessible when stopping to use a Tesla charging location.

See @kurtlikevonnegut if you would've suggested THIS, we could've gotten behind it. But to request squaring the door so you can more easily place your car seats? Hell no! Kids suck!

Back in my day, we didn't have four door trucks, much less four door CARS, and we somehow managed!

All joking/sarcasm aside, I brought my kid home from the hospital in my Buick Grand National (and someone tried to race me). Put a friend's kid in the back of a fox body Mustang, as he would only sleep when you drove like a bat out of hell.
I did make one concession. I was looking at a 04 GTO, but there wasn't a quick release for the seat... you had to wait on the electric motors to move the seat forward for back seat access. Didn't get that car.

Fun fact about the gear tunnel if you remove the tailgate to give it to your PDR guy it fits in the gear tunnel also shocked the hell out of the guy when you pull a tailgate out of the side of the truck.

This discussion should also lead into "What's in your gear tunnel today"
For me I have my welding bottle I need to get filled and its a great place for it doesn't slide around don't have to worry about it coming loose and banging into the cab or tailgate.
