Had my vehicle in at 38,000 for the “comprehensive inspection” and requested a tire rotation. Was quoted $300 for the inspection and $75 for the tire rotation. Okay. When I picked up the vehicle saw the invoice was $300. They stated that because my tires did not meet factory spec (119S instead of 116H) they refused to do the rotation. Everything apparently passed whatever inspection they did. It just showed a list of items as “passed” but without any measurements such as brake pad thickness etc. So I’ll just take their word that they did it.

Correction. They did measure front pads to 9mm and rear 10mm. That seems correct for very little use of friction brakes.

Kind of unexpected they refused to rotate the tires though. I’ll have to waste another day having it done at Costco or Discount Tire.

If you bought these and had them installed at either Costco or discount tire your rotations should be free.

Yes I am aware but I figured since it was at Rivian, I was willing to pay the nominal fee for the rotation to save time. I’ll schedule with Costco at some point. Tires after 8000 miles have minimal wear. Was 13.5/32 new and down to 12/32 fronts and 13/32 rear. I’ll wait another 8000 miles before doing a first rotation.

I’ve been pretty successful, but I would never consider $75 nominal when I could have it done for free. I guess I’m just old and cheap :CWL:

Now onto the important issue. Tell us about the range loss if any of those 119s

That's stupid. If the tire exceeds spec, there is absolutely no reason to refuse to rotate them.

Time taken out of service is not free, even if it’s a couple hours.

About 10% range loss but keep in mind brand new tires with full tread depth have more rolling resistance.

Totally frustrating. I get it. So silly they refuse to do it - just making senseless excuses that doesn’t serve their customers well.

Taking my R1S with KO3s in for alignment in the next two weeks - really hoping they don’t give me the runaround as Les Schwab identified that alignment was out of spec on front and back - but neither they nor the local discount tire can do Rivian alignment - only the SC.

Agreed!
I can understand why Rivian would refuse to touch tires that were rated below the vehicle's top rated electronically limited speed of 110mph. But, as long as the tires are officially (by the tire manufacturer) speed rated above 110mph Rivian is covered, so what is the rational behind denying service? Seems like a poorly conceived policy that was cobbled together quickly without much thought as an "all or nothing" type deal when it shouldn't be that way.

Had my R1T wheels aligned by Rivian, as the rear alignment was way off. My tires are LT275/65-20 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Ascents. Definitely not OEM spec tires. There was no issue at my service center. It does seem strange that the OP’s SC wouldn’t do the rotation. It’s not like they were selling and installing these non-OEM spec tires. It was a simple rotation, for cryin’ out loud.

Did they provide an alignment report? My SC did not. I’d like to see the before and after alignment measurements.
