I just got this email. 49.99 a month for what they have now is an absolute no. At those prices for current functionality, there's a market for Comma to make a Gen 2 compatible unit. The UHF is barely usable for free, let alone 50 bucks a month. I'm a little surprised at how expensive this is TBH.

Yep. I won't be paying for it either.

I suspect this is in anticipation of some major update to the autonomy system this month. That way we will have about a month or so to try it out first. Unless it's significantly better than what we have now -- not interested in paying any amount of money for it.

4.1 years of monthly payments - assuming they don't raise or lower the monthly price.

So if you plan on upgrading in 4 years or less, don't bother with the one-time payment. As used FSD Tesla prices have shown, you won't get your money's worth on resale.

Plus, now we know that the current hardware won't support the full level of driving that the upcoming Lidar equipped vehicles will, it seems silly to pre-pay until something you're willing to pre-pay for is available at the time you're paying.

I'd pay about $15 a month to keep what we have now. Beyond that, with how much I still have to monitor it, I won't be purchasing.

It works great in my area on everything I've used it on. It works on almost every road on my commute, whereas I only get about a mile and a half that supercruise in my 24' denali works on.

I still don't plan on subscribing to it until it has any sort of eyes-off though.

I did 7 hours of driving today. Mostly rural roads. I enjoyed driving my Rivian while listening to a The Rest Is History podcast. My day would have been much less enjoyable if I had had a computer drive my hot rod Rivian instead of me.
I’m a pass on Autonomy + at any price.

I use it occasionally on local highways but primarily just on trips to Boston where I’m on the same highway for 35+ miles at a time. I agree that the current functionality makes this price point feel quite high. Will see where things stand when early April rolls around.

Ive been lurking on here for months and months after getting my limestone Gen 2 R1S. My commute each day takes me on nearly all the different types of streets and highways that really push the autonomy features to their limit.

I drive each morning a few miles on a two-lane road near a rural area, then I transition to the freeway for about 7 miles and then finish off the last few miles right through the middle of a moderately sized city on busy city streets.

I do enjoy Autonomony+ but it has significant limitations and trust issues. It is best in stop-and-go traffic and moderate highway speeds. Unfortunately, its braking performance is inconsistent in every mode. Sometimes stops a few feet behind the car in front, and sometimes it nearly crawls up on their trunk. It doesn't recognize stop signs or signal lights.

It does many things well but in no way is it worth this new price. It is at the beta stage at best, and as Rivian drivers, we are the test dummies. This new costs is also financing the next gen of this software that we as Gen 1 or Gen 2 owners will not see unless we upgrade to a Gen 3.

The roads here are in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Lots of phantom braking or misjudging curves, even in areas where the turn is more than safe enough. It still works okay, and works decently on the freeway, but not worth anywhere near 50 bucks a month IMO.

Doesn't apply to my Gen 1, but I honestly don't get the business logic on this.

Assuming a 15% take rate (similar to Tesla) $50/mo * ~200k annual vehicle sales * 15% = $18M revenue stream per year of vehicle sales. Apply vehicle sales growth and the longevity of vehicles and it grows to a revenue stream in the low hundreds of millions in a decade.

Rivian already has $5B in revenue. Once Normal scales, they'll have maybe $12B in revenue (~200k annual sales at a $60k ASP across all vehicles / trims).

Autonomy involves a multi-billion dollar software investment effort, on top of putting a couple hundred dollars worth of sensors in every vehicle sold, even if they're not paying for autonomy. I don't get how this maths.

e in my 24' denali works on.
If the Autonomy+ stays with my account (not the vehicle), I’d pay full price today.
That would be a dream, but I couldn’t keep my free charging from referral points with my new trade-in—they said it isn’t transferable.. let alone this ...
