I'm looking at buying a preowned R1T from Rivian. The vehicle history checks I've run are giving me pause.
The carfax has no data before 03/13/2026 when a 42k odometer reading was reported. Autocheck has less info.

It's a 22 with an 0035XX VIN; am I missing something.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would ask for a battery State of Health report.. it's a 4 year old vehicle at this point.

Rivian service centers didn't report to CarFax in the first couple years I believe. Also, these vehicles aren't like ICE vehicles and don't require regular maintenance other than tire rotations. So if the car was running without any service center visits until 42k miles, that actually sounds great to me personally.

Rivian Roamer let's you track maximum capacity, with which you could use to estimate SoH, but there is not SoH parameter for us to track.

Has Rivian provided this in the past when selling used trucks?

But the carfax should have the owner info when it was purchased way before 43k miles. Unless, like it was said earlier, it was never titled.

I really wish they exposed SoH. I think I've found a way to calculate it but I'm being careful before I expose it. I want to confirm.

I should know once your battery gets below 97% and below.

Can you do it by dividing the current battery capacity by the peak battery capacity? Seems like that would be a good approximation, unless there is a top side buffer Rivian plays around with as the battery ages. Which isn't a big deal, because maintaining a total capacity of 143 kWh after three years (for example) would be pretty amazing.

No because this isn't reliable or robust.

Consider someone who signs up with fresh data, what is "peak"? Okay, maybe I don't show it until they have winter/summer data? It would be wildly inaccurate.

I draw a strong line in the sand with Rivian Roamer. I make no analysis of data that isn't robust. Otherwise it just confuses customers.

Thank you for taking that approach. It is greatly appreciated.

For me, I can feel confident that the "peak" recorded in Rivian Roamer is pretty much the max this pack will ever be able to charge to. It is currently 143.7 kWh. Even if I could stuff a little more kWh into the pack, I doubt it would be much.

So for me, tracking how much the pack can hold relative to the peak recorded is useful. How far I can drive is directly dependent on how much energy the pack is holding.

If I charge it to 100% and it only reaches 140 kWh, my range will be that much less. I think. If Rivian adjusts the buffer at the bottom of the pack it could still maintain the range even if the total energy is lower. Not sure I am convinced Rivian is messing with the bottom buffer, whatever that is.

This information is already available to you on Rivian Roamer. Peak and trough are both tracked as well as the current reported capacity.

Rivian can email you all the info they have on the vehicle. Owner info will be redacted - but you’ll get all the truck info for everything done by Rivian.
