If you set the desired miles of range at destination high enough it will add automatically along the route. If it thinks you have plenty of range at the destination it will not add any. When you ask to add I think that is when it looks for the closest, but I have not done it that way.

You need to know that running in conserve all the time will wear out the front tires much faster. So much so that it can overtake the electricity savings.
