  1. Rivian becomes Official Vehicle Partner of Big Sky Resort

This move made more sense once I realized they opened a SC in Belgrade.
  2. Rivian becomes Official Vehicle Partner of Big Sky Resort

In Park City Rivians are everywhere. I can’t think of a worse state than Montana to promote EVs… very cold and no charging infrastructure. Rivian would be well served to engage more with their existing customers than find new ones where they don’t exist.
  3. So, you're thinking about buying an electric truck (R1T)? A new owner's perspective.

I think you’ll find 2.9 is likely not consistent with your long-term efficiency, especially with 22s. Doing a lot of regen-style driving will also put a lot of wear on your tires, especially if you’re sitting too low, with limited suspension travel. I’m also skeptical how you’re measuring your...
  4. Recall: Rear Toe‑Link Bolts Replacement (affects 19,641 R1 vehicles)

Until I did a buyback with my Cybertruck I had no idea how easy it would be to lemon law a Rivian… given that they usually hold your vehicle for a week before even touching it and tend to have so many Initial quality issues. For Texas at least, more than 30 days in service before 24k miles...
  5. So, you're thinking about buying an electric truck (R1T)? A new owner's perspective.

2.9 is hardly inefficient for the R1T. You might have calculated your numbers wrong. 2.3-2.4 is typically what you could see with All Season tires and 1.9-2.1 is what you find with AT depending on your drive mode and driving split between highway and city.
  6. Tesla FSD drives down railroad tracks, gets hit by train

To be fair that is a HW3 vehicle that is constrained to an earlier version of FSD than HW4 vehicles. So you may wish to understand there are rather large differences in performance between v12 HW3 and v13 HW4 versions and even between v12 and v13 iterations. You can’t even compare it to what...
  7. Farewell - sold my R1T QM and moved to Tesla MY26 - some thoughts and comparison

You definitely didn’t use the interface correctly. It’s just different and less photorealistic. The parking vision sees very flat objects and renders the hazard in color when you approach it. It also sees lines for parking and renders them very clearly. You don’t need parking sensors or cameras.
  8. Farewell - sold my R1T QM and moved to Tesla MY26 - some thoughts and comparison

V12 and HW3 vs v13 and HW4 have seen massive improvements. Even within v13 there have been a lot of ups and downs and generally still beta just a much more stable experience overall.
  9. No longer an all Rivian household

The guy test drove the car. I doubt he knows the finer points. I put 12k miles on my I5 in about a year. Hyundai’s approach to UI is traditional not “all computer” so there will be more awkward interface adjustments. Hyundai’s route planning is especially terrible in the 2022 edition. Not sure...
  10. No longer an all Rivian household

There’s a vast difference in active computing activity and wake/sleep algorithms between the “software” car companies (Tesla/Rivian) and the “car” companies. My Audi Etron went to sleep sitting in my garage unplugged for 3 months and did not communicate with my app at all and lost 0% battery...
  11. 4th crack in windshield. OMG I’m so done

It depends on where you drive. I had a winter transportation fleet of 7-8 vehicles in Park City and we generally replaced 2-3 windshields every season in addition to filling every chip as soon as it happens. Not everyone is exposed to the same risk. Routes with a lot of plowing, semi activity...
  12. 12V maintenance technique with Camping Mode

Here’s a technique to force your vehicle to charge the 12 V from the HV battery (ie keep it awake) and maybe save a trip to service. The obvious problem with the OEM 12 V is frequent cycling and perhaps insufficient recharging. This method allows some measurements of the 12 V system without...
  13. Edmunds' 2025 Gen2 R1T Dual Motor vs. Tacoma TRD Pro Off-Road Comparison

You shouldn’t need to air down for that hill. I’ve driven a ton off road with full psi on decent off road wheels and tires. Maybe airing down would have helped but the problem here is more fundamental.
  14. Suspension broke for 3rd time!

I think the SLC Rivian service center is just overwhelmed. I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a mistake repairing it. There seems to be a lot of chaos at all levels within the organization.
