I have a weird variant of this question.
I have a phone charger plugged in to the 12V plug under my dash, and for several months it worked just fine.
Starting sometime after August, 2025 (I can't narrow down the time any more than that) the charger stopped charging my phone while driving...
One of the few (very few) frustrations I have about Rivian is how everything is buried in touchscreen menus. Seems contrary to safety studies that show taking your eyes off the road for a touch screen are a safety hazard. If this design allows largely tactile control of functions that would...
Thanks for the description, very helpful.
Is the power draw:
1. 27 W total, of which 15 W goes to the phone, and 12 W goes to the charger, or
2. 42 W total, with 27W going to the charger plus 15 W going to the phone?
Thanks for all the excellent feedback. Short version of the outcome - we are now a two-EV family, with a Hyundai Ioniq 5 as a companion to our Rivian R1S.
A slightly longer version in the event our experience is useful to anyone else, as all the previous comments in this thread were helpful to...
Ha! Solving the two-body problem with two Teslas, nice!
I interpret sub's comment to be what I requested -- I asked for advice. We are all products of our own experience, and to be fair the post starts with "Personally".
In any case, good to hear your experience, too! The range on the...
You all are the best, thanks! Encouraging to read the positive experiences of so many EV-only households, and it's good to be reminded of other options too. Also great to hear that there are several cases of 2 EVs sharing the same charger, or chargers that can support 2 EVs.
We have some...
We recently got an R1S as an refresh for my 19 yr old vehicle. Quite the upgrade.
Our other car is only ~14 years old, so we thought we had a few more years. A few shudders and some strange accelerations this week, and we're facing a major engine repair that will be expensive and take ~2...
That is a freakin' scary story. I was seriously considering a Tesla because their privacy policy at the time seemed a lot more comprehensive than Rivian's. I may have missed it in the story, but it wasn't clear if those videos included customers who had explicitly opted *out* of Tesla's data...
Good info here! I had my crossbars adjusted during a service center appointment. Since then I have left them on for ski season. I will take them off soon, and will try a few re-installs to make sure they are still ok. Nice to have some things I can check myself in case not.
does your set also include the bumper flap? Checking the prices it looks like $279 for the cargo set, plus $60 for the side pieces, would be $339. The $40 bumper flap would get the total to $379.
Hey all - thanks for the great suggestions and descriptions.
I finally got the fourth double-click. I was trying all sorts of variations and I can't remember exactly what it was that finally invoked the right magic. I do remember I was on a ladder, pushing down really hard on top and trying...
I got one (R1S)! It’s the best.
Now I’m trying to install cross bars. That’s not the best.
I get the cross-bars lined up. Instructions say there should be a double-click on each side to seat the cross bar in place. First click, no problem. Second click . . . lots of problems.
The instructions...
