  1. Thoughts on Exterior Lights (Turn Signals/Brake/Hazard Lights)

The only data I’d be interested in seeing would be a quantitative study that looked at visibility with or without DRLs. Anything attempting to correlate accident rates with DRLs (because how could you set up a controlled experiment to measure crashes!) would be so full of potentially...
  2. Perfect vehicles don’t exist.

Great topic. Cars, trucks, boats, pinball machines, fishing rods, hunting rifles, bicycles, steaks, coffee - everything has trade offs (little window into my life there). As someone who typically agonizes over always making the “best” choice, I’m slowly learning that it’s a fallacy. Good...
  3. R1T Towing Range Sneak Peek — 44 Miles of Predicted Range with 37% Battery Remaining

I’ve towed extensively with our F150 Ecoboost. These numbers aren’t shocking (they actually seem about right, maybe a bit low), and they’ll most likely translate to any EV towing at speed. Drag is the big killer, as people have already stated keeping the speed down can help quite a bit. News...
  4. Have You Gone Fully Electric??

Model 3, will be fully EV with an R1T replacing our current F150. Solar setup on the house. No hesitations whatsoever, in fact I can’t wait to join my wife in the “no gassing up” world. She hasn’t pumped gas since 2018 when we got our Tesla. The biggest things I learned after getting our car...
  5. Electric Cars Listed By 0-60 MPH Acceleration: Quickest To Slowest Rivian R1T/R1S turns out to be effectively the least expensive EV in the U.S. 0-60

I love this. I off-road semi frequently and the off road performance is what drew me into the Rivian. The fact that it’s a rocket and MT suggest it handles like a sport sedan have me over the top. It’s like a Model S and a Ford Raptor had a baby…and like kids often do, it’s surpassing it’s...
  6. ? Official EPA Range and MPGe Numbers for R1T & R1S

I’m curious to see the real world numbers. The Motor Trend videos definitely suggest over 300 (307?) on 20’s in conserve mode and damn near it in all around (293). I know none of those numbers are official but they are promising.
  7. Information or reasoned speculation on range with AT 20's and 'Conserve' mode - please avoid drift

Makes a lot of sense. Standardization would be very difficult if they used a blended version. So the question is…what mode did they use, and will “conserve” eke any more range out of the A/Ts….?‍♂️
  8. Information or reasoned speculation on range with AT 20's and 'Conserve' mode - please avoid drift

Following this thread. There was a suggestion that the EPA rating was done in blend of all modes, which would include some that are more energy hungry (such as sport and off-road, rock crawl, etc.). I’m hoping that the real world numbers run in the more efficient modes give us 20” A/T fans a...
  9. ? Official EPA Range and MPGe Numbers for R1T & R1S

No pro here, but I think the A/Ts will definitely be more efficient than a dedicated snow tire as they have been designed as an EV specific tire. That suggests at least some degree of low rolling resistance to me. Having run dedicated winters and A/Ts (with the snowflake) I’ll add with a high...
  10. ? Official EPA Range and MPGe Numbers for R1T & R1S

My guess would be stickier rubber, and possibly not a low-rolling resistance tire on the sports. Tesla was putting the Pilot Sport 4S on the P model 3’s from what I understand, which is an all season tire but definitely a far cry from a winter. I’d be shocked if Rivian opted for a true...
  11. ? Official EPA Range and MPGe Numbers for R1T & R1S

Like a lot of people the hit on the 20s isn’t a huge surprise but I was hoping the 300+ would be on those wheels given the marketed use of the vehicle. As a Tesla driver I have zero concerns when it comes to highway trips (we look forward to supercharging stops actually, breaks the trip up)...
  12. Off-Road Upgrade or Not?

I’m the perfect case for an “on the fence” off road packager. I hike and bike and fish and hunt (and generally find myself in the woods frequently), but don’t go off-roading just to go off-roading - it’s all about the activity or destination I’m trying to get to. That puts me in some slightly...
  13. ??‍♂️ Some questions answered by my Rivian Guide today

They mention that the standard shield is designed for protection in extreme off-road conditions, which does make me wonder why I need the off road package. Super-extra-crazy-extreme off-road conditions? If it’s the difference between a standard high-quality off-road skid plate and one...
  14. Rivian 0-60 MPH Acceleration Video Detailed

I think DuckTruck has also suggested that drive modes control more than just the suspension height and damping. Sport mode (or whatever is the “performance” setting for pavement) will probably give optimized launches via traction control and power application for the best 0-60 smiles. This...
  15. New video "Let's Just Drive" & official letter from RJ provides huge update!

I’m wondering if the test track had any “washboard” type of terrain. Our gravel (logging) roads are littered with it, and to say that it sucks isn’t even getting started. I’m very curious at how the suspension will perform, my suspicion is really well especially combined with 4 motors and the...
