I have been poring over all the comments about controls/driving/spce etc. All vehicles have things you love/hate. For example.

i have a 2018 f-150 v8 supercrew - love the rear sests that flip up. Hate the lack of step into the bed, the overly bright lcd screen that bleeds into the cabin even in night mode, the annoyiing lift off rattle from the transmission.
My wifes x5 has the split tailgate which is awesome, but the stupid rotary controller works the wrong way on maps andthe hideous indicators stalks. Or the sunroof that has a drain that burbles from time to time.

I can run through all of the annoying things on all of my vehicles that I’ve owned. Nothing is going to perfect.

i did have a Jaguar that was lemoned after 45 days in the shop in 6 months of ownership - now that level of issue is a differwnt matter entirely.

my point is you either generally like a vehicle or you don’t, regardless of its strengths or design issues.looking forward to getting my R1T in 2023 as I wasn’t smart enough to preorder early. Cant wait to hear from you all how yours feel.

Got a 2021 f150 powerboost. needed a truck now. Really really like it Hate the gas bill immensely. Ford Really nailed it with this generation. If there had been a lightning available I would have bought it of course. I’m just ready to go electric. The Rivian is a better fit size wise for me and I will be giving up some cool stuff going to the Rivian and getting other cool stuff in return. I just think the Rivian is a better designed ev truck overall. don’t know what I will do if the lightning is offered to me first and I’m still looking at a long wait for the R1T. I think I can be happy with either but human nature will make me second guess myself no matter what my choice. I tried suggesting to my wife we could have an f150 AND a Rivian. Oh boy, what a stink eye I got..

I feel bad for those that need the “wife‘s approval/permission“ or have WAF considerations to deal with on everything they purchase. ?

I feel bad for people in a relationship with someone they feel is so beneath themselves that they don’t even provide them with the courtesy of discussing major financial decisions with them.

But maybe it‘s just me who appreciates the idea of mutual respect in relationships.

If you’re just single and livin life to the fullest, then more power to ya! :)

I feel badly for people who can’t read tongue in cheek humorous comments for what they are. However, I do seriously talk with my wife about major purchases. I feel sorry for your partner if you don’t

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I've owned several perfect vehicles, each of them with flaws, but perfection nonetheless.
Perfection is an illusion and a distraction from achievement.
Everything I've read, seen and heard of Rivian says they are laboring under no such misapprehension of perfection. I do not see Rivian purporting to offer a perfect vehicle or perfect ownership experience or any other illusory notion of perfection.
Early adopters of any technology would be wise to embark upon the adventure with their eyes wide open: there will be bugs, there will be problems and owning a Rivian any time in the next year or three will not be like owning a Porsche or an Apple Mac or a Herman Miller Aeron chair. Rivian will rise to be amongst these brands for their earned reputation of excellence, I have no doubt and I'm putting my money where my keyboard is, in two ways: buying the Launch Edition, and buying the stock.
So far, so very good.

Great topic.

Cars, trucks, boats, pinball machines, fishing rods, hunting rifles, bicycles, steaks, coffee - everything has trade offs (little window into my life there). As someone who typically agonizes over always making the “best” choice, I’m slowly learning that it’s a fallacy. Good enough exists, and things you may not love don’t have to be deal breakers. I’m sure the R1T won’t be perfect, but I’m also sure it’ll be way better than good enough.
