R2 Rivian Portable Charger for $400?

I already plan to upgrade my garage with the Tesla Universal Wall changer over the Rivian wall charger because of lower cost and features. I was going to get the Rivian portable charger with the R2 in the meantime, but it's $400 when inexpensive alternatives are available. Is the Rivian portable charge worth it when the Tesla mobile charge is only $300 on Amazon? The money saved can go to pay for the paint.

Interestingly when leasing the new Subaru Trailseeker for my wife is that all the cables and adaptors which cost $650 for Rivian were included for free along with the rear cargo cover. For a vehicle starting at &40k it was good that $850 worth of extra were included - this is in PA so would not be able to get the discount that Rivian is offering for a few states.

Honestly, I’d just pick up a used Tesla mobile connector kit on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. That’s what I did when we got our second Tesla and they no longer included it for free. I think I paid $150 or so, but that was a couple of years ago.

The mobile charger for the 2019 Tesla Model 3 was included, with both 120 and 240 connectors. If I can sell my Tesla and keep my charger I may forego the Rivian mobile charger and save $400.

Only the newest Gen3 mobile connector will work with NACS cars even if the plug is the same. Communication protocol changed with the advent of NACS from Tesla proprietary. The Tesla Gen3 mobile connector is only $300 though, $100 cheaper than Rivian.

What is a good alternative? I settled on Tesla mobile because of the name brand, there were other brands on Amazon from ~$150-$200 but I was not sure of the quality.

The Tesla Mobile Connector is good. $300 with lots of available plug types. Lectron makes a nice one with selectable amps up to 40. DeWalt also has a good one with lots of plug options.

My plan is to get the Lectron with the 14-50 plug, then a some converters so it'll work with 6-50, 14-30, and 10-30 outlets. This will only be used pretty rarely.

Also thinking about getting the Tesla one and their pack of outlets, but I have trouble owning anything Tesla branded.

Do you avoid using all Tesla superchargers too? Tesla makes great products and has many wonderful employees. The mobile connector and wall connector are the best quality and price available.

Wall connector is different than the mobile connector. The Gen3 wall connector works just fine with NACS. The Gen2 mobile and wall connectors do not work with NACS. I also have that same wall connector.
