tl;dr: Tesla renamed the purchase contract in their online customer portal from saying "Full Self Driving" in the title to saying "Full Self Driving (Supervised)" - but at the same time removed the ability to redownload the contract.

Hopefully owners saved their original contract copies that call it "Full Self Driving".

When we got our Tesla with FSD back in 2017-2018, the website had all kinds of wild claims about FSD being ready and only subject to regulatory approval, too. As well as capabilities. I feel you'd have to download/screencap everything to get a sense of what they were advertising, promising, and implying.

Changing contract language like this is insane. Amending FSD to "Supervised" is absolutely a material change.

Over promising tend to lead to expectations (not met) and law suits. Which lead to them doing this, to cover their formerly bare asses?

Is the old contract on the internet archives? I don't have any stake in this so I'm too lazy to check

You mean like the claim in late 2016 that "by the end of next year" (meaning 2017) a Tesla would be capable of driving from New York to Los Angeles with no human in the vehicle? (Including recharging itself at "upcoming automated Superchargers".)

And that by 2018 you'd be able to have your personally-owned Tesla operate as a robotaxi while you weren't using it, earning you money?

Tesla never sold a car that had level 4 driving abilities. Only in 2017-2018 did they sell an FSD software that promised summon, banish (park seek), and can conduct "short and long distance trips with no intervention required by the person in the driver's seat in almost all circumnstances."

This cannot be interpreted as level 4 because otherwise you could sit in the passenger's seat.

FSD is already there today and banish is very close to being added, given the new smart summon in FSD v14.

FSD v14 lite will satisfy that requirement.

For some reason legacy S/X (before 2021) have a version of FSD that does not work right. It doesn't support summon, banish, and the computer is air cooled. Maybe there is some other hardware differences in the car. Almost everyone who claims FSD is "unusable" are people with those cars. Even on HW3 it is decent enough.

most likely the people left with a legacy S/X on HW3 will get a new car.

After 2018 tesla changed the description of the FSD product to offer much less
