I respect your plan, but are you a Trader or Investor? I have not did well as a short term trader, maybe 50% gain, but as an investor, I have done well. I've been buying Rivian since 2022 almost every month, I plan to hold until 2032. I did this with Tesla in 2016 and sold all by end 2025. I 13x on tesla, I hope to see 5x on Rivian by 2030. This in not investment advice, just sharing my plan.
Well, there is nothing wrong with having an exist strategy. Also being an investor and a trader are not mutually exclusive. One can do both and both on the same stock too (core+trade positions).

You (and me too) got lucky with Tesla as I got in at the IPO time and since then have bought and sold many times but always with a core position. There are plenty of others like Tesla but does take some patience (e.g., Apple).

We all do what we are comfortable with.

As a side note, I see that you're Lucas fan, and his museum opens September in LA.

I genuinely feel for Rivian. They've made some really difficult commitments (like the VW, Uber and DOE deals) that underpin a lot of shareholder sentiment.

At the end of the day, the reasons for the additional share offering is generally a good thing - they need cash to build factories to build vehicles to sell.

I don't balk or gripe about their intentions or even the timing of the announcement (right after better than expected Q2 and EOY projections)

The thing I can't get behind is their leadership focus, and the rewards mechanisms driving them.

Rivian seriously needs better focus on the things that matter (quality/reliability) to be commercially successful.

I'm big on Objectives and Key Results (used them for years in my line of work) and most days it feels like Rivian's Objective is to sell software features (that happen to run inside a vehicle hardware platform) and their top key result is that people love their software features and want more of them.

They're brilliant on the software feature side of the business, they need an operational transformation (pardon the buzzphrase) - they need leadership that understands how to ship product on time, how to keep customer commitments, how to get service sorted out, how to handle complex manufacturing with greater MTBF, how to handle suppliers that constantly miss commitment dates.... Those are things the next CEO/COO need to sort out, and I don't have a ton of confidence in the existing CEO/COO to do that.

LOL. RIVN Stock down 85% and stayed down and going sideways for 4yrs. And people here bashing Tesla, a winning company and making people richer year after year.🤣.
Tesla has been relatively flat for the last 4-5 years too at about $350 if I had to guess. It did have some peaks at ~$480 December 2024 then dive, then peak again at ~$498 January 2026, I know because I sold all my holding at $450 - $480 after 9 years, it was a good ride. Tesla was never going to break $500, and if it did, it would dive again.

I really do think Rivian has more upside than Tesla right now which is one of the reasons I started dumping Tesla and buying Rivian since 2022. Rivian is the only individual stock I have right now.
