I ordered a TRI at the end of July and went to pick it up yesterday. Unfortunately there were too many issues — paneling was off, scratch on the bumper, stealth ppf was applied poorly, inside was dirty, plastic area was faded all around. One other issue I noticed was the manufacturer’s date was 11/25. My guess is that that’s why the plastic faded. It was sitting out in the sun just baking.

The car was in bad enough shape that the manager of came out and felt really bad and wanted to make it right. So they ordered another car that was the exact same spec to be wrapped and shipped out again. However, I got a call saying that they looked at the VIN and it appears that the manufacturer’s date is once again 11/25. They assured me they will make sure the plastic isn’t faded.

I won’t get the car for another month. Would you take a 11/25 stamped car at the end of September 2026? There are no other cars in the color and spec I want and no more will be produced for 2026 model.

I could get 2027 but I locked up .99% financing which I don’t want to give up.

The vehicle is still new and with a full warranty. And yes there are other factors to consider when accepting a vehicle that has been parked somewhere so long. I would make sure to put the Tri through some serious “stress” and checks.

I think you should be asking yourself this. Do I value a lower interest less than a current mfg date, with the specs I do not want?

With all due respect these type of posts baffle me. You might make a financial decision, if you lose the low financing you secured, based on the opinion of strangers.

If you are planning on keeping it long term, the "extra" year should not matter. If you are going to resell in 3 years, it's might make a difference between 3 year and 4 year in the buyers eyes. However, it appears they are both 26 model years? it's common around August or so to transition to the next model year. A used buyer may not even look at the build date.

We know that at least in the early years, Rivian was bulding batches of colors/options that were not presold, in order to maximize production efficiency and minimize line changeovers. It seems like that might be the situation here and had low demand for your specs.

When I got my R1T Dual in February of 2024, it had a build date of June 2023. The truck has been great.

I am glad that they are amenable to making things right with your order. Regardless of the production and year, it's a LOT of money for a vehicle!

who cares if advise is from a stranger if the logic and reasoning is sound. I’m here to ask for opinions, not to ask someone to make a decision for me.

I got my R1S at the end of October and it had been built in June. It must have sat somewhere for a long time as the paint is full of blemishes like it had sap or bird poop left on it for months. Additionally, there is a suspicious area on the rear fender that looks like it might have been repaired at some point. It was a lease so I didn't complain when I noticed all of this but the paint is, honestly, really bad. I guess I'd be concerned about how/where it was stored for such a long period of time and whether it underwent major repairs in that time.

The paint was okay but the entire plastic around the car was faded. Definitely looked like it was left out in the sun.

They have assured me that won’t be the case with the next car.

I’d want to check the 12v battery health if it had been sitting. Other than that, no concerns.

Warrenty starts when you buy it so that is not an issue. Plastic trim can be fixed with this, it works wonders, I use it on my 2022 to keep the plastic looking new, an application lasts over 12 months.

It’s a lot of money so do what makes you happy but if the major issue was faded plastic I would probably take it.

Here is a sample of my 2022 R1S from a week ago, the CERAKOTE was last applied in February.

And opinions you will get, which will not influence your decision. Be well.
