Hi all, sad this is my first post. Wife was involved in a rear end collision last week. Teenager was on phone and not paying attention when he struck her. Thankfully she was okay and my little ones were not in the truck. No airbag deployment, but she was quite sore the next day. SSD didn't capture anything from gear guard sadly. Going through the stress of working with insurance currently. Found out the kid who hit us as a Progressive plan with up to 50K in coverage. Have two options to go through progressive, or make a claim on my State Farm policy.

Based on the pic, can anyone give me an assessment if this is totaled or not? I have the truck parked out front and not being used for fear of the lighter popping off, but mainly for my kids safety until it's checked out. I started a lease on the vehicle in December. Original play was to buy out after a year of ownership if we loved the truck, which we have for the last 3 months. At this point kinda hoping for a totaled vehicle to start fresh and not worry about body work issues. Not to mention the nightmare of getting the PPF reapplied. Anyone have similar damage and have successful repair? Looking through Rivian certified centers here in VA. Appreciate some tips and guidance, thank you all!

Nah, but it doesn't matter what I think. It's what your insurance thinks that matters. Airbags did not deploy right?

A picture from beneath would probably be interesting but I'm gonna go with "totaled".

If you pull the SSD and connect it to your computer, DriveCam should have some video on it. Have you checked that?

I think that's the goose neck hinge.

No luck unfortunately with finding anything when plugged into computer. The kid is taking responsibility, so not worried about who's to blame.

I’d go through your insurance, that is what you pay them for. Give them the other guys insurance info and they can get a copy of the accident report. It should be no fault for you and they will recover payout from the other insurance company. As long as you have uninsured/underinsured on your policy that should cover if his insurance is not sufficient.

Thank you, I was thinking something along the same line. I've been with State Farm for decades and I've always been content with them. Progressive...not so much

Get the claim in with your insurance ASAP..

Unfortunately, thats totaled. The bed floor has been pushed in enough that the bed side rails have pushed out at the top, which means uni-frame damage.

Without a doubt in my mind, totaled.

I had a similar thing happen to me this past Friday. Guy wasn’t looking, drove right into my wife’s car:

Went through my insurance (Geico). Totaled. Actually ending up $6k in the positive, and it was a lease (2 1/2 years into it…’24 A5). They’re paying me (minus my $1k deductible), then going after his insurance (Travelers). They’ve already acknowledged he was at fault.

Correct, no airbags.
And without seeing if there is frame damage, I think it's repairable and under the offender's $50k limit. Fortunate that their coverage is that high. If damages are higher than their max, it'd be a long drawn out battle. And yes, absolutely let your insurance be your representative. It's what you pay them for... so you don't get steamrolled by the other insurance company.

The external image of the rear end doesn't/cannot tell if there are any frame or battery pack damage. If there is a breach to the battery pack casing, it's definitely totaled. Frame dame probably.

Given how expensive Rivian repairs are, its very easy to exceed the 50% value of the vehicle, where the totaled/non-totaled threshold is.

Some angles underneath in case that helps

Not really because it's mostly flexible plastic cladding. It's what's behind it that matters. So insurance won't know until a body shop starts to dissect and document.
