Thanks for all the replies. My current thinking is - if I hadn't already grabbed the 20's with AT-lite wheels I would leave it alone. It would be nice to have the better efficiency (range) on the highway.

But since I already have bought these wheels and tires, I'm going to go ahead and use them. Once the trip is over, I'll put the 22's back on.

The alternative is to just turn around and sell the 20's. I suspect I could get exactly what I purchased them for.

Still has value to keep the 20" for some local off-road adventure or as winter tires.

7,000 miles 99% on pavement I would take the range tires.

I picked up a R1T Tri Max this past weekend. I plan to take a cross-country (~7k mile) camping trip with it in April/May. For the moment, I primarily plan to camp at state and national parks with an overnight at hotels between camping (ahhh showers). The car came with the 22" all season sport wheels with the HL275/ 50R22 116H XL Pirelli Scorpion MS. I understand that this tire isn't particularly loved. I am considering buying a set of 20's with the OEM 275/60R20 116H XL Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT tires. Given that 99% of the actual miles will be on roads, the 22's with the Pirellis would be the most efficient. Am I being foolish to think that I'll manage on these tires for the 1% of time I'll be on dirt roads? Or should I eat the expense and reduced range and get the "AT-lite" Goodyears? I will have a roof top tent so I'm already taking a range hit, and I'd love to only charge to 70% between charging hops due to the max pack's charge curve.
These tires are good enough to tackle any dirt road plus some easy off road. Not good for moderate or severe off road. If you are planning some serious off road (Moab) or something like that then consider upgrading. Otherwise you are good. Also milage... My milage on trip with 100% on road for 1168 miles came out 2.21 mpkwh. Not good. If you go with all terrain tires. It may go down even more. So consider that.

The sidewalls are very vulnerable for any off-roading where sidewall impact is an issue. Sand/dirt would be okay but rocky terrain might not.

May I ask what 22" tire(s)you would recommend upgrading to as I'm going off-road on moderate rocky terrain (Joshua Tree)? Already have a bubble on my Pirelli HL 275/50 R22 116H.
