Every vehicle has a learning curve.

With Rivian, we’ve noticed a few things that tend to take owners a little time:
  • Regenerative braking behavior in stop and go traffic
  • Ride height changes and how they affect entry and handling
  • The quietness at highway speeds
  • Instant torque when maneuvering in tight spaces
None of these are negatives. Just different.

Most owners seem to adapt quickly, but there’s usually one thing that takes a little longer.

For us, it was the regen braking at low speeds.

What took you the longest to get used to?

I was a previous EV owner when I purchased the Rivian so most of the EV items I was use to however the instant torque for a vehicle this size was a shocker for sure.

Just learning how to get used to the regenerative braking so I stopped exactly where I wanted to. Honestly it didn't even take that long.

Actually, all the interior functions being on a display vs actual dials and switches takes a bit getting used to. Worst part is some things require digging through menus to get what you are looking for vs reaching for a switch. Not great to do while driving.

Also a previous EV owner so all of the list was already dealt with
But
Yep the torque on that size truck and being able to change so many variables on the drive, handling, and suspension
Just flat out thrill to drive

To be honest, one thingI have not yet mastered, putting it in Neutural, and being natural at the wipers choices.

Regen Breaking- Getting the car to stop on the 'Stop Line' with out hitting the breaks ( I had a lng chat with a officer and a warning) after 9000 miles still working on it.

-The not putting on the Parking break and turning it off.
- The fact that it is so quite that know the big thing is the tire noise.
THe fact that the supension is rough regardless tof the settings...

Just putting the vehicle in "Park" and walking away. It felt odd not having to "turn it off" to exit the vehicle.

Now whenever I'm in a gas vehicle, I get out and leave the engine running half the time. lol!

I’m still not used to parking a vehicle with tires so far forward. I often don’t pull forward enough in a parking space.

When I drive my widfes car, (ICE), I forget to turn it off too. Also the wiper/lights controls are different, so I get that mixed up. So, it is not the Rivians fault, it is my issue.

Aside from the obvious, CarPlay, I tend to put the thing in offroad mode as often as possible, literally because it just looks cooler at max height.
The problem is, I forget... and being a GEN 1, it is still limited to 19 MPH until the suspension drops from highest to high. I'll pull out of the neighborhood and really piss off the people behind me for a good 30 seconds 😂
