No steering wheel. Just a big red panic button on the dash to shut everything down. /s
I was thinking interiors and surfaces that will stand up to abuse, and that are easy to clean, more than anything else.

I was think ing the R2 Truck should have just a front row bench seat and no second seats, but then I'm not sure the EV works truck has much of a market. The F150 Lightning sucked at that (not least on cost comparison vs ICE F150).

The R2X however... that could be like the Rubicon of the range. I like the sound of that.

Saw an R2 for the first time driving on highway 85 in San Jose. Sure looks like a big potential winner to me. I like the mini-R1S look. Way better looking than a Model Y.

I know I am a nobody, but I have an engineering friend inside Rivian and he told me they are definitely working on a R2X at the moment. I asked if its going to be a Tri-Motor and he just gave me a good smirk haha

I really hope they unveil next year or end of this year. I have a fat check waiting for them when it releases 😁

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
R2T! R2T! R2T! R2T!

(Not that I personally need a smaller truck, I just think it would be good for Rivian to have something to compete against the truck that Ford will introduce at some point...)
I think they’re calling it the T3. They mentioned it being more aerodynamic, so I’m thinking it will look like Hyundai Santa Fe, but smaller, like a Maverick.

I seem to recall ford, at one point, was going to release their successor to the lightning, calling it the T3. The Truck of Today and Tomorrow

Gimme a Maverick/Santa Cruz sized pickup with a ≥4.5' bed that can tow my 4500 pound teardrop ~100 miles between 10-80 recharges, and I will trade my R1T in for it immediately. It can be an "extended cab" (super cramped back seats that are just big enough for the dog) instead of a proper "club cab," but it should have a full size spare. R2TX? R3TX?

Either that, or an extended R1T with 5.5+' bed, where the entire extra wheelbase space is battery (like the original plan for Max Pack, but even more,) so it can tow a heavy non aerodynamic trailer at least 200 miles. (R1TW?)

Uh, Maverick is bigger than Santa Fe.
Just barely, but bigger.

Yeah so this is awesome but expected. They will phase out the R1S and R1T over the next 5 years and build everything off the R2 platform. This is the exact same story as Tesla. Model S and X started getting old for the premium price point when all the new tech and styling was incorporated into Model 3/Y, so they S/X seemed old in comparison for a lot more money also so then they were discontinued. The next 5 years will be big for Rivian as they move into a mainstream, solid brand.

This is 2029 at earliest though. GA factory has to be built, brought online, R2 and R3 have to be ramped, and then variants can be made. Don't forget they owe Uber thousands of R2's also.
The Tesla lens is the wrong lens to view Rivian through. Tesla didn’t stop making the S/X due to age or lack of demand, they needed manufacturing capacity for Optimus and made a company decision/bet that the bot will be more profitable. The S and X weren’t losing money.
I’m not suggesting Rivian won’t kill off the R1 eventually (I doubt they’ll get rid of the full-size suv, but who knows) just that you can’t reason because Tesla killed their high price options, Rivian will as well.

Interesting. And around $30K too.

Oh, I thought the Maverick was smaller. Thanks! Very close in size.

Zero to 60 is crazy fast with 2 motors! Do we really need 3? More torque for off road I guess but at what point is enough...well, enough?
