Are we over thinking this.... A simple U-bolt would work, and easily hold the topper to the truck using the crossbar attachment points. Clean, easy.

Pretty nice. I don't like losing the tie down points. I would think you could replace the bolts with an eye bolt or similar so you could still use those points to secure the topper and have a spot for ties and hooks.
