  1. Learned more Rivian Gen 2 tech updates / differences to Gen 1

I'm not expert service repair technician, but I am still not understanding the rationale for the 12V battery being under the passenger seat. The whole video is talking about making the repair process easier, but seems like that is a lot more difficult to physically remove a seat when the battery...
  2. The Garage Video Podcast - Vidya Rajagopalan, SVP Rivian Software and Hardware Engineering

Good technical podcast. The talk about compute headroom makes me wonder how much further R1 Gen1 can be stretched before hitting the hardware limits. No kidding. Interesting thing is I think they're in front of a green screen, so they absolutely could have changed that.
  3. Halloween Theme Preview: Back to the Future

Agreed! This should just be an entire October event!
  4. How to Improve a Gen 1 Rivian R1S’s Meridian Sound System After Update 2024.27.01/35.00 With Simple EQ Changes

Thanks a lot for all the analysis and testing. I'll try out your settings, and see how it goes for a few days. I know it personally takes me some time to adjust and hear a difference.
  5. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: Presidential Conversation with Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe ’05

Seems like RJ has been on a media campaign recently. This time, its from his alma mater Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. If you've seen the other videos in the past two weeks or so, there's a lot of the same talking points about the company's founding, mission, and challenges. So, I will just...
  6. R1T Max Pack powering my house, thanks Hurricane Helene

I can relate to your experience! See Hurricane Beryl Report Out: Rivian for home power backup was a game changer! Anything you would do differently? Until V2H gets here, what I've learned from Hurrican Beryl is that I'm probably going to get a high powered "solar generator" to avoid...
  7. NY Times Interview: The Road Ahead for E.V.s with RJ Scaringe [9/25/24]

I like this interview, mostly because RJ masterfully navigated all those bait questions about politics and Elon Musk. Glad to hear the constant focus on the broader, longer term goals over short hot takes.

  9. RIVN down 10%

Wait, what? I shouldn't ask because that his personal life and all, but it seemed like all was well since his family was in lots of social media posts.
  10. Connect+ is Here

The way I see it, the money I save from gasoline and oil changes more than makes up for the cost of Connect+. Plus, oil changes never made my ICE car better over time! I understand some of the frustration though. Something the was once free now gets a cost. Ultimately up to each person if it's...
  11. Rivian Zonal Electrical Architecture Explained -- Popular Science

I'm picking on that statement because there is no actual reference point, performance data, or in-depth description. What laptop is it as powerful as? A MacBook Pro, or a Chromebook? What metric is being used to determine how powerful it is? What about the infotainment ECU is as a capable as a...
  12. Rivian Zonal Electrical Architecture Explained -- Popular Science

What...? Interesting information, but this article could be written a little better.
  13. New RJ Interview (The Verge / Nilay Patel) Discusses Tesla, Ford, Apple, CarPlay, R2, R3 / R3X & More

Thanks, very good interview and shows some insights into the mind of RJ. My favorite part is R3X coming out first before R3!
  14. Programmers vs Programs

Haven't been in the software world in a while, but I'll give it a shot. Software engineering is an incredibly complex field, especially when you throw in a vehicle too. In software development there are typically many staging areas to ensure quality assurance (QA) testing is done before it is...
  15. Larry Parker Interview: Forging Rivian Into A Pioneering Auto Brand - by Overcrest Productions

Saw this video podcast interviewing former Rivian Executive Creative Director Larry Parker. It's quite long, so I'll have to go back with the time stamps later. Larry goes over his car enthusiasm, early days at Rivian, departing from Rivian, and some discussions about life and purpose in...
  16. Hurricane Beryl Report Out: Rivian for home power backup was a game changer!

Appreciate all the comments, almost too many to reply to! So many creative ideas for running the extension cords from outdoors to indoors. I'll need to keep them all in mind (pool noodles, door knobs, inlet boxes etc..) Definitely looking forward to V2H long term. I'm going to have to think...
  17. Hurricane Beryl Report Out: Rivian for home power backup was a game changer!

Oh yes, I forgot where I saw that trick. That's something I definitely did to run the cord out of the Rivian without keeping it open. The extension cord question was more so how to get it indoors without creating openings on the house.
  18. Hurricane Beryl Report Out: Rivian for home power backup was a game changer!

Hurricane Beryl hit the greater Houston area last Monday, and I was out of power for almost a week. Fortunately I remembered I have a huge backup battery in my garage in the form of my R1S. During that power outage, through the use of extension cables and power strips: I kept my refrigerator...
  19. Gen2 R1T Pikes Peak 2024 Full Run (Official Video)

I'm so glad this was posted on the official channel, the live coverage was a bit lacking. After watching Rivian Dad's video of the R1T going it at a leisurely pace, this run looks insane!
  20. JerryRigEverything 2 year R1T review video w/ look @ tonneau cover and windshield replacement

What a crazy amount of steps to replace a windshield! I'm hoping R2/R3/Gen2 will get a lot easier in the serviceability factor. Somewhat unrelated, but I recently had to change out a 12V battery on an ICE vehicle. Pop the hood, loosen some bolts, swap the 12V battery, and retighten. That's...
